Force Marner to waive is the best bet
No sense in making a deal. AM injury will keep him out of some all all playoff games. Time to develop next generation.

They’ll need a better shop to put these new tools in, so why not build a sturdy one? They can keep some of the tools but they definitely need a better selection.

I don’t think letting assets walk solves the bare cupboards issue. If they go all in and trade the young players and picks and it doesn’t work, then what?

I don't think they even consider a rebuild as long as Matthews is a Leaf, especially the kind of rebuild you are talking about.
Besides I don't want they kind of rebuild you are talking about and neither should you or anyone else.
Because the kind of rebuild you are talking about leads to being the Buffalo Sabres.
It leads to the 10+ year rebuild that's coming for Pittsburgh once that old core is gone in a couple years.
It leads to the 10+ year rebuild that Chicago has begun and it will take that long.
It leads to almost a decade without playoffs like Detroit and Ottawa.
It's a bad idea and NOBODY should be in favor of it.

The decision to keep Mitch was made when they didn't trade him before his NTC kicked in. This is just the negotiation phase.
The deadline needs to fill holes with retained players since we are apparently dead set in this top heavy strategy.

If they go all in and it doesn’t work again this year, the core shows zero progress, you’d rather run it back and be stuck in no man’s land like they’ve been.
We’ve said it for the past 5 yrs, but this has to be their last chance to show that they can at least be competitive.
