They can’t wait three years to trade Matthews Marner and Nylander- if it doesn’t work this year and the core gets pushed out the first round series, they have to start the rebuild this summer.

As long as Matthews is a Leaf you may as well forget about a rebuild because as long as Matthews is a leaf the Leafs are in win NOW mode.

They’ll need a better shop to put these new tools in, so why not build a sturdy one? They can keep some of the tools but they definitely need a better selection.

Personally.

JT 1 year deal or out.
Marner force waive or out. Or no NMC
Rielly strip the A, perform or buyout

Give Willy an A
Let Matthews heal.

That's a start

I don’t think letting assets walk solves the bare cupboards issue. If they go all in and trade the young players and picks and it doesn’t work, then what?

If he gets pushed out again theyd have to consider all options, no?

I don't think they even consider a rebuild as long as Matthews is a Leaf, especially the kind of rebuild you are talking about.

Besides I don't want they kind of rebuild you are talking about and neither should you or anyone else.

Because the kind of rebuild you are talking about leads to being the Buffalo Sabres.

It leads to the 10+ year rebuild that's coming for Pittsburgh once that old core is gone in a couple years.

It leads to the 10+ year rebuild that Chicago has begun and it will take that long.

It leads to almost a decade without playoffs like Detroit and Ottawa.

It's a bad idea and NOBODY should be in favor of it.

Agreed, it doesn't.

The decision to keep Mitch was made when they didn't trade him before his NTC kicked in. This is just the negotiation phase.

The deadline needs to fill holes with retained players since we are apparently dead set in this top heavy strategy.

If they go all in and it doesn’t work again this year, the core shows zero progress, you’d rather run it back and be stuck in no man’s land like they’ve been.

We’ve said it for the past 5 yrs, but this has to be their last chance to show that they can at least be competitive.

Maybe they feel they’re not paid enough

I'd MUCH rather watch a competitive team, then watch the Sabres, BlackHawks or current/future Pens

Now is the time to go all in.

Treat now as if the world is ending, and you don't have a tomorrow to worry about.

A couple years ago my mother-in-law passed.

She lived as high off the hog as she could and there was only about $80k left in her portfolio.

She knew it was coming and was proud to have spent when she had the opportunity.
