I can't see a way that it could work for the bases, though.

Maybe it can down the road -- but I'm way more comfortable relying on the Amica Pitch Zone than I am the Laz Diaz' of the world.
Robot umps will be used only for balls and strikes. An ump would still be behind the plate to relay the computer’s call and perform the other duties (fair/foul, safe/out, etc.).

There goes the idea of him taking any discount to play for Cora.
Tbh I look at Boras as a good thing. Has a history of getting things done with Boston because they don't BS each other.

Each side knows how they operate And typically come go an agreement if there's mutual interest.

So with just under 48% of the ballots in, Ortiz has been named on 84.5% of the ballots. He should make it in when they announce the results tomorrow night. Bonds and Clemens currently sit just over the 75% threshold, but typically the percentage have gone down from known ballots so it’s dicey with them.

The New CBA really should include a rule changes committee that is a equal partnership between the union/owners. The fact that the decline of the on-field product isn't being mentioned in the cba talks as of now is concerning.

I'm curious to see how much the private voters pull Ortiz's numbers down. He's at 83.4% right now with an estimated 50.8% of ballots known. History suggests that 8.4% above the threshold should be enough of a cushion, but we'll see.

After being at game 6 vs. Houston last fall, where Laz Diaz missed over 20 ball and strike calls, including missing a pivotal strike 3 by Eovaldi, I am entirely fine with balls and strikes being called electronically.
For all you Laz Diaz fans out there......he's getting bumped up to Crew Chief this year.

For the record, I'm 100% against robots calling balls & strikes. As a pitcher, being able to exploit an umpire's strike zone by getting a call off the plate is an important part of the game.

My issue isn't with a call that's slightly out of the zone. Its consistency with the call. If you are gonna call the low strike, or give the inside or outside strike slightly off the plate, I'm good with it, as long as you are consistent with it.

Harold Reynolds, ruining MLB moments since 2009. Someone at MLB Network needs to save us all and fire him.
