Post-Game Talk: Hot Garbage, Leafs Lose 3-2 In OT

Lucky to get the point. Our defensive play is reminiscent of past few years. Not worried, we're just a bit flat after playing the hot hand for a while. I suspect we have one more stinker in us against Winnipeg but then we will be fine. Ebb and flow. Take the point and try not to be wretched on Thursday. I thought Rittich looked really good especially considering the brief time he had to get familiar with his new team. If we get that kind of play from him, I am way more comfortable with him as Campbell's back up, that's some good G depth we have there.

Gally looks like he's cooling off. I mean he's not a threat to score at all it seems

Malhotra can’t put the effort in for them.

The lack of urgency from Matthews and Rielly on the PP is unwatchable. Half-speed entries, one-handed fly-by’s, floating around the zone like he’s Ovechkin, etc. They do not move their feet at all, that’s an effort issue.

Doesn’t help when you insulate low effort players with guys who can’t handle the puck like Simmonds and Thornton instead of Robertson.

The onus is on the players to generate second chances off retrieval’s/rebounds, which they are some of the worst in the league at on the PP.

I think you mean lack of urgency from everyone. No one on the pp has been good. Not a single one

At least we don’t have to experience Sutter hockey again for the rest of the season. But I do hope we win at least some of our Season Series Finales against these teams. Edmonton and now Calgary have gotten the last laugh, even if we did perform better through the whole season.

Why aren't we flipping Marner and Matthews on the PP more? Seems to make sense to try to open up Matthews one-timer. It was highly effective last year.

Meh the team is so good this forum loses its mind over an OT loss where we easily could have won the game at a couple of different points.

Sure power play has some performance issues and we defensively look spaced out sometimes, but Calgary is playing for their life and we’re playing for... uhh I’d need to check the standings to look for a reason to care that much.

I’m personally not the least bit concerned by this game.

> Matthews didn't have his legs all night and it impacted his line the whole night
> Engvall's not an NHLer, he doesn't have anything
> Simmonds was straight up off
> Tavares and Hyman played hard, but that line missed Nylander badly
> I thought Rielly and Brodie played well all things considered
> Riddich was good

They need time off

Deserved every bit of that loss. Rittich was shaky all night but made enough saves to give us a chance to win. The PP needs to wake up. You can change the personnel all you want. It’s rearranging deck chairs on the titanic. Work the puck below the goal line holy f***. Guy in front of the net never moves, yet they never shoot. What’s the f***ing point of the screen? He is completely useless otherwise. Move him away from the f***ing net and start playing 5 on 4 for a change. Literally if I have to watch another powerplay with these guys passing around the umbrella I’m throwing my TV off the f***ing balcony. Look at lindhom goal. How many have we scored like that? None. We never try that play ever. Molhotra is 100% to blame for this shit. Figure it out

Get a knew PP coach, what the f*** is Malholtra telling them to do

Its just weird that the Leafs PP was so on fire early in the season and then all of a sudden it goes to being the worst in the league for so many games and Malholtra is the coach throughout that huge swing.

My take on the pp is that Tavares should play bumper and hyman net front.
Tavares can’t handle the puck on the wall and hyman turns it over if he carries it.
Those turnovers will kill a pp.
Jmho.

TRUE. Thank god

the power play doesn't have "some" issues. Our goal differential on the PP over the last month is worse than the worst team's goal differential at 5v5. it's almost impossible to overstate how massive of a weakness it is
