Post-Game Talk: Hot Garbage, Leafs Lose 3-2 In OT

Can we all agree that if Reilly is extended, we can't afford to give him a raise given what he brings to rink on a regular basis?

Love Matthews and Marner, but man, SERIOUS brainfarts by those 2 in OT. Marner put in great work to win us the initial possession, but then completely wasted it by going 1-on-3 and throwing a garbage shot on net. Hold on to the puck in OT!!!

And then when the puck was going the other way, the forwards were terrible. Gambling for takeaways that clearly weren't going to work, basically useless defensively, allowed Gaudreau to walk in for an easy, uncontested breakaway goal. Terrible defence by both Matthews and Marner on that one.

People blaming Rielly, go back and watch it. It's a 2-on-2, not a 2-on-1, Rielly takes the puck handler (Lindholm), Matthews is supposed to take Gaudreau. Should be a nothing play, but Matthews is lazy and tries to intercept the pass vs. just skating hard and keeping up with Gaudreau. That's almost all on Matthews, and a bit on Marner, who was weak and gambling in the neutral zone (and gave up possession in the first place with a clearly awful shot).

Rittich was good, PP was bad, OT play was shockingly dumb.

Not a great game but can't win em all. I'd like to see the team practice the PP, zone awareness and less giveaways.

Multiple times entire team is being caught staring at the puck.

I think Matthews taking the guy higher as he did makes more sense. The way Gaudreau was going Rielly should have been able to get in front of him, while Matthews probably wouldn't have had many options beyond hooking him.

Trash game. Regroup. Get our guys back and keep on owning the division

Dermott played well, but Holl was awful.

Thornton did well to get half his nose hacked off, but for a second there I thought that his beard was bleeding.

We need practice time and look very tired.

Marner you should have held onto that puck instead of trying to beat everyone and be the hero.

fatigue definitely plays a role, but it shouldn't stop you from scoring on a 4 minute powerplay. It's time for Keefe to stop living in a fantasy world where the only flaw with the PP is that players aren't confident enough

A very fresh Flames team vs a very fatigued Leafs team.

Fatigue did play a large factor tonight; oh well, at least they got a point of it.

No, their inability to score on a four minute powerplay and only having one powerplay goal in like the last 36-37 opportunities is why they lost, not because of fatigue.

Special teams wins games.

Get a knew PP coach, what the f*** is Malholtra telling them to do

Malhotra can’t put the effort in for them.

The lack of urgency from Matthews and Rielly on the PP is unwatchable. Half-speed entries, one-handed fly-by’s, floating around the zone like he’s Ovechkin, etc. They do not move their feet at all, that’s an effort issue.

Doesn’t help when you insulate low effort players with guys who can’t handle the puck like Simmonds and Thornton instead of Robertson.

The onus is on the players to generate second chances off retrieval’s/rebounds, which they are some of the worst in the league at on the PP.

Eventually our lack of PP goals are going to bite us. Today it did. 4 minutes straight and dud.

We've gone through long stretches over-relying on our strong PP while being suspect 5v5. I'd be fine losing if we didn't look so terrible doing it. Some of the hockey we are watching is just brutal.
