I had the (dis)pleasure of going to an afternoon Christening yesterday and was listening to the game on the way down to the event...Let me first of say, I loved when Maloney first became color guy on radio...great insights, truthful no matter the situation,etc...yesterday, I felt I was listening to Derek Sanderson covering the Bruins in the late '80's-early '90's...complete biased,one-way views...when did this transformation happen? and it's a shame to be honest....godspeed

I've listened to the better part of 3 games this series on the radio because of work and I agree with you, its pretty funny IMO he was going nuts over the early whistle yesterday, and I don't think I can count on just two hands how many times hes said "I don't know how tough X player would be if it weren't for the orange and black he's wearing", I for one don't mind it, I listen to alot of games on sirus and almost all the radio guys from other teams are complete homers, but I do think Maloney has taken it to another level during the playoffs, must be some bad blood there from the old days.

Take solace in the fact that your not a Bruins fan listening to the guy they have on NESN, good old Bah-stun boy that sounds like close minded child.

Maloney gets emotional during the games the few times I've heard him. I really like Kenny Albert though. Ideally he would take over for Sam when he retires. I also would rather have homer Maloney than homer joe, but that might just be me.

I absolutely LOVE Kenny Albert I hope he does take over, great Play by Play and good but not too much insight, also very much agree that homer Maloney is better than uninformed idiot homer joe.

The ****, Maloney is awesome. He get's emotional, but it's always justly. Him and Kenny are awesome. He knows his stuff, and I don't think he's biased at all.

Between Sam, Joe, Kenny, Maloney, we have one of the best groups of broadcasters. There's way worse guys out there.

...except Pidto. Someone needs to jettison that guy to a Siberian coal mine, via cardboard box.

Listened to Game 2 of TB MTL and it was embarrassing to hear Esposito and Mishkin. Probably the worst duo in the league. Talk about homerism. Espo is yelling at the top of his lungs "that was interference!!!!" during the middle of Mishkins play by play.

Terrible homerism not to mention that its on RADIO and the listener cant see what Espo was talking about. That went on for a while and then the Lightning scored and heard Mishkins call. i had to turn it off.

Are you serious???

If Maloney came even close to that its a damn shame. I think hes usually pretty fair on TV, but i could see a little bit of them from him too.

Maloney also won't gloss over when the Rangers do in fact suck.

Yeah he often either goes full homer or gets realllllly down on and upset at the Rangers when they aren't playing well. Emotional is probably a good way to describe it, I've definitely heard him ripping into the Rangers when it probably wasn't deserved that much

There have been a few games where the Rangers looked lethargic and passive, or just simply playing stupid. Unlike Sam, Al, and Joe, Maloney wouldn't try to spin a positive out of such a game.

What exactly has Pidto done to make so many people dislike him as a broadcaster? I think he does an ok job on the MSG 150...

He's a homer and it's really bad. He's not in Michael Kay territory, but he's not all that far. I'm not a fan at all.

As others have mentioned, I pray Kenny Albert takes over for Sam. The ONLY real choice, and a voice we've gotten used to.

Just to reiterate my hate for michael kay. As a yankee fan i am depressed and ashamed he calls our games. Makes me appreciate the guys we have on the rangers broadcast that much more.

Kenny Albert is the man. He's gotta be the logical choice to take over when Sam hangs 'em up, right?

Maloney is okay. I've spent the last 15 years listening to Joe B and Locker doing Caps games, and Maloney is nowhere near the homers they are.

long live homer

I think Maloney is great even if he is a homer. He did play for the Rangers after all. He knows his stuff and doesn't sugar coat it when the team sucks. I like him.

love the fact that he is emotional during his broadcasts. i understand where you're coming from in regards to a broadcaster being not just one sided, but it isn't that terrible. if you're talking about a real homer just youtube jack edwards top 10 on youtube haha

I like Kenny but would much rather Howie Rose if I had the choice.

Maloney is one of the best in the business, he actually knows and understands hockey, who cares if he's a little biased, most are.

Best in the business? He may be knowledgeable, but he is not a good color man. He just starts talking and tries to find his point somewhere along the way.

He's gotten a lot better since he started, but he's still pretty bad.

I think Dave Maloney is great. He definitely rips on Ranger players if they don't perform, but two things have happened since the turn of the year where there is a bit of a change.

1. The Ranger players aren't making mistakes for him to point out. The team has played a lot better, and adopted to AV's system, while AV has been giving out dynamic looks once he had all his roles sorted out.

2. More TV time for Dave, and you can't say anything bad about and MSG owned product, on MSG TV.

There have been times where he's been brutally honest, but since the turn of the year, the Rangers have been the top team outside of the contenders, and generally have been playing a mistake free game for months now.

I think Maloney is a top-notch color guy. :help:

He's emotional, but so what? If the Rangers are playing like ****, he doesn't sugarcoat anything. I've really never found him to be biased at all. He's very knowledgeable, but still understand the ways in which the game have changed.

Rangers have a homer color guy, but it definitely ain't Dave, lol.

I think he's pretty average. That may be a reflection of the ****** state of color commentary across the league though...

Don't have much of a problem with Maloney, Duguay, Carter or Biron. I wish the Rangers would replace Micheletti with one of them.

Kenny Albert is very good. His dad Marv was even better. Marv Albert and Sal Messina is the best broadcasting team whether television or radio that the Rangers have ever had and IMO it's not even close--probably after that it would be Rosen, Davidson.

You know I don't respect Michael Kay, but I like him as a guy on some days, and others just say blech. One day he's a nice everyday Joe and solid, and another day he's a dysfunctional momma's boy with the whole world against him.

Back to hockey:

I like Dougay a lot. I think Doogs takes the cake on all of the commentators, tells it like it is, knowledge of the game is great, sounds like prepares for the plays he's going to talk about, has a beat on the pulse of the team, brings great energy. Doesn't get up and down with the game, and knows what he's talking about.
