I’m a huge fan of Guentzel to the Canes as a Penguins fan, but I don’t see the point in extending him.

I think he’ll age well. But just seems like the Canes don’t need to do that. This should be a one and done for a cup run and bye.

The Canes need finishers so I'd say they do need him. Whether it works out, or in the event that it does they can figure out a contract is an entirely different story.

Funny thing is that Guentzels finishing has regressed quite a bit this year but his chance creation is still through the roof.

Keep in mind that such a regression is still good for 30+ goals haha.

I think he'll be great this year, but if I was the Canes, I'd avoid giving him the bag.

I think they paid a fair price for a rental. Go win the cup and then let him walk.

I like Guentzel, but the Canes org is shrewd with asset valuation and contracts. IMO to a fault a times, but they don't give any player the bag easily. If he comes in and finds chemistry, and we win a Cup that's an entirely different conversation.

As it stands he hasn't played a single game in a Canes jersey. He's been stapled to a generational talent his entire career. There's really no telling how this will turn out. That's not discounting his level of talent, but moreso stating the obvious there are far too many variables to make a call on anything longer term than this season until we see the on ice product.

My point in the previous reply was he's the type of player we need, whether he's the specific player we end up signing to a contact, is another story.

I think he's fairly low risk to extend if he chooses to with you guys. He doesn't depend on his physical talents, it's all hockey IQ. Should be effective until he's 35.

He did crack a joke about the guy tracking him down to his car at the presser.
I like in his presser where Waddell wanted so badly to say "we don't care about what the fans think" and stumbled a few times ensuring it didn't come across that way before finally saying something like "making the team better is how you keep great fans happy"

When experts were throwing out 1st rounders and all our top prospects as the package coming back, they are bound to overreact
Did you listen to it? Because it had nothing to do with the quality of a prospect that came back or what draft pick came back.

I think that the Canes spent a lot of capital to not want to extend Guentzel. They're not going to pay above what they think he's worth, though, and there's no need for them to. We're one of the best teams in the league and we have a core that's still very young. Unlike inferior clubs, we have the luxury to play some hard-to-get like Florida/Tampa/Colorado/Vegas. And even if they don't sign him, they still cleared $4.5M in cap space with practically no consequences.

I do think, though, that out of all of our UFAs outside of Martinook, Guentzel is the likeliest keep of the bunch, because goal-scoring is the element that we lack.

You don’t think if they received a “worthy” return they would be less upset about selling at all?
Again, did you listen to it?

The guy was complaining about not getting "Americans" back for a good American in Guentzel and said "Nothing good ever came out of Finland".

Either you didn't listen to it or you are purposefully being obstinate.

Ole jimmy didn’t find our package worthy of Guentzel. I don’t see the issue with what I said

2 of our top 5s are American, just saying
