Confirmed with Link: Holden to Boston for Rob O'Gara + 2018 3rd round pick

The HAHAHAHAH LULZ victory laps some of our posters are taking on the main boards on this trade are ridiculous.

It's a 3rd rounder, not a 1st. Holden is a solid depth Dman for a playoff push. Pull yourselves together. It's a fair trade all around.

I think most of us are saying it's fair. You had a few LULZ posts early on that ended up being pretty embarrassing, though.

It really wasn't his fault. It was 100% on AV for benching Skjei for 15 minutes in the 3rd after a 2 goal game then playing Staal-Holden until we went from 5-3 lead to 5-4, to 5-5, to OT, then Holden pinch, 2 on 1, game over.

Holden was not even on the ice on 5-4 and 5-5 goals.

Better example is Game two against Montreal.
That is fair, and I mentioned it before, he really lost that game for Rangers. But Ottawa series, I do not think he cost the Rangers that series more than McDonagh, Girardi, Staal or even Lundqvist.

Chances are Holden will do much better on a team that is not the nightmare that is AVs man-man defence.
Im happy with the return, but I have absolutely no dislike of Holden. He was misused, that's not on him.

very true. His stick positioning isn't bad and his puck battles aren't bad either. He's gotten in trouble mostly because he's running around out of position trying to play AV's asinine man on man defense. He doesn't have the footspeed to catch up or the defense awareness to be one step ahead to negate his bad foot speed.

He'll do well in Boston on the 3rd pairing being used properly by a proper coach.

The problem was majorly Staal for both series and when it's a pairing of Staal-Holden, it makes Holden look even worse than he was.

Safe to say, deal #1 for GMJG at 2018 Deadline is a narrow win for the NY Rangers. I think people were expecting a 3rd maybe a 4th. The added Dman, gives them the edge on this deal..

Eh, Holden sometimes looked clueless with the puck. I’ll never forget how close he came to blowing game five in the Montreal series in OT when he almost turned the puck over at center ice and Montreal could have had a 2-on-0. He tried to handle the puck better than he was capable of doing.

I like hearing that. You say he’s high IQ and low risk. How’s his first pass in the D zone? Obviously he’s not an outlet passer, because his offensive numbers would be much higher, but a good defensive D in today’s game has to be able to make a good, short first pass.

He does a lot of the small things right, good in the Corners, good in front of the net and this was while he was playing his off wing with the Bruins.
He doesn't do anything flashy, but doesn't do anything wrong as well. He remind me of a modern day Seidenberg (with better skating, and less physical)

Cool someone from my town.

Ever play roller hockey at the rink behind the Smithtown Public Library in Nesconset? We call it the Armory, it's in the parking lot. I know a lot of guys out there and in Nesconset who play there.
