Well whenever I say anything negative about the Jets I say it out of love not for the sake of negativity. I was also almost entirely positive in the PGTs for the long stretch leading upto and including the Tampa game. But I get your point, it's just in my nature to look at and worry about "the darkest timeline".

I have not lost confidence in them as a contender at all. Just commenting on individual games, they have the talent to turn it on by April.

And thats what i think the plan is. They will never admit to this because it would be too politically incorrect. It would go against the old "always bring your A game and giver it 110 percent" all the time. Or "you need to play 60 minutes "(which is way easier said then done)

Truth is, the Jets have the talent to "win ugly" or rope-a-dope teams. If this is saving them energy so they would be fresher and healthier for the play-offs, then all the power to them....as long as they win.

3rd game in 4, back to back, missing Buff, Myers and Ehlers... I'll take the win. Better than falling behind by 3 and dummying the Wild in the third and falling short. Niku and Morrow really struggled. So did Chiarot at times. Dumb penalties. Great goaltending. Top scorer in a slump. First place in the Central. Good result.

Like winning.
Dislike clenching once Detroit got a 2nd goal.
Hate our PP1 as of late.
Lots of things going wrong with it, most of all is them staying out for 75 - 90% of the PP while accomplishing squat. Makes little sense when the PP2 is fairly hot right now.

Hopefully the good version (recent) of Myers can return soon.

If Bro-swah goes another month without a game I'm gonna be pretty pissed.
Mason was 2 - 8 at this point last year (roughly)

Without this years heroics from the Croissant we would be no where near the playoffs.
Likely sitting around 44 points and behind Vancouver.

I truly think that letting Brossoit play more will potentially push Helle to do better over all.
The signing of Mason is often credited with being the motivation that Helle used to have such a great season last year. It could work?

and the below replacement level player tanev scored again with his 10th on his way to a 20g and 20a season. chevy has to re-sign him even if over 2 million by a little. this guy isn't fluking these goals in. him and Lawry need to be on same line for the next few years.

We won. I was there and drank some beer. We didn't play our best but the Wings have no finish to truly threaten. Brossoit was great again. Took a cab home and poured a glass of wine. If you want more than that you'll have to wait for Whileee to post ;):).

haha that's good enough for me! Always glad to hear my fellow Jetters are being responsible with the safe rides home. KB gets an A+ for me. :thumbu:

Ya but they mentioned he'd likely get offers of 3 million or more if this keeps up.
At some point he becomes to expensive to sign unless they already know they are shedding salaries else where.

Bro only .943 and still unbeaten but hey Mo will ride ol’ .908 for the next 10 just because!

Lame still doing squat, looked slightly better!
Niku, Morrow unimpressive, would Schilling- Nogier be any different.
_______________________________________________________

I'm a "big fan" of Laurent Brossoit -- and I don't think I've seen him goaltend this year at anything under around .930. Tonight he was .942-stopping 33of 35 shots --and his average this year so far is.937 and it's the "highest of all NHL Goaltenders.

Again--I'd like to see him get a lot more starts -- not that Helle has been bad at .908, and solid, but Brossoit has been spectacular - the game you need to win "big games."

Agree that Laine, is not looking that good -- he's a streaky goal scorer, but is only 20 yrs old, and I think he'll gradually get better,

Sami Nikku --if I were coach --I would "not" play him --he's not ready, and he looks very young, and needs to mature a lot. He looks very shaky to me.

I thought Nogier, and Schilling looked really good last time when they played, and I wish Maurice would play these guys a lot more.

My major disappointment this year -- is Roslovic ?? -- I was expecting a lot more playmaking from him, and way more goal scoring ?? -- he's somewhat invisible.

I'd like to see Petan in there -- he has great hands --and I really like the way Tanev is playing, and contributing this year -- he just may score 20 goals. That guy never stops hustling.

Kulikov is also playing great right now !!! -- we're looking good.

NO! then he'll shill us for Millions.

He's still RFA for one more year so there is some cost control there.
I'm not sure he'll sign more than a 1 year (or whatever his RFA status has left) contract with us for back up money.

Too many teams looking for goalies each year.
But we should be able to keep him for next year if we want.

With Helle getting 6million no room for a medium contract on our back up.

this is part of it and the other part is the psychological part of a deep run to a young team. alot of teams that go on deep playoff runs fail to do well early in the next season.. you came off such an adrenaline grind with such emotional ups and downs that it just lmost impossible to get up for every game. this is where vets experiance and professionalism come thru. even as fans we are still feeding off the last run we expect so much from them but its like fliping a coin for a chance to win a million bucks and lose and then flip for a chane to win a 100 bucks just not the same.. once the games mean something that passion and drive will be back

tl:dr

He also won't have enough of a track record to command a big salary. NHL history is full of goalies that have had short runs of great play and then fall off the map. Saying that I'm high on the guy and super glad Chevy scooped him up for peanuts in the off season.

Just got home from the game. Note to self: Friday night games with way too many Red Wings fans in attendance makes for a real rough crowd. I saw shit tonight that I've never seen at a sporting event before. Regardless, the good guys won and that's all that matters.

I'm only giving this win 3 out of 5 Rad Jets Guys because we should've won by at least 7 goals. We were leading 3-0 and took our foot off the gas halfway through the 2nd and let the Wings back in. No killer instinct for the pack of wolves this season...

WOOO! WOOOOO!! WOOOOOOOOT!!!

We really need our Giraffe back--c'mon Tyler shed that temporary cast, and back out there -- we need your scoring.

  • It was a bit of a weird game - after a hot first period, it looks like the amount of games in the last little while caught up to most of the Jets as they let the Red Wings control the pace of play. As we can see in terms of Corsica's CF% vs xGF%, however, the Red Wings... just didn't do a lot with what they had in terms of 5v5 play, with most of their damage coming on special teams.
  • Brossoit easily saw the pucks coming his way, and he and the rest of the Jets have been doing one thing better then when Hellebuyck is in net - clearing pucks from directly in front of the crease.
  • Maurice's post game comments seemed to indirectly point a lot of blame on his younger player versus the 'veterans' of the team: "A lot of the guys that play bigger minutes for us were... I mean they were fatigued but they were still able to drive through. We don't have a lot of them but a bunch of our older guys were pretty good." I think it's pretty apparent where most of the blame is being shifted as it is in line with the recent views in Jets-land: the second line with two young wingers, fourth line with all young players, and the Morrow-Niku pairing. Granted, the second line was actually (and I say this cautiously as I got picked on last night for this) "just okay", but Appleton-Copp-Lemieux was disastrous and Morrow-Niku couldn't buy a bounce when they needed it most.
  • On the topic of Morrow-Niku, there's something to be said about being set up for failure. In ~6.5 of their 12 minutes on the ice they were playing with the 4th line of which they got barraged for pretty much 9CA against a constant rotation of Detroit's bottom 6 (and a bit of their second line too). When they played the remaining time split between Little and Lowry's line, the Corsi share was just below 50% (6CF, 8CA). There's a lot of glaring issues apparent when the 4th line and 3rd pairing were on the ice, but I believe most of that blame lies on the forwards themselves.
  • For the record, here's how many games Niku has played in the last 4 weeks including today: 4. He's too young to be a press box defenceman and this is stunting his development. Jets need to figure out what they want from this kid and fast.
  • Steady going for Brossoit. I agree with many that he should get a few more starts.
Chief's final eyetest says: Jets need that all-star break to come sooner than later.

EDIT: Oh and the PP1 sucks now without Buff because they're standing way too still. The PP2 had several better chances (for like the 10% of the available time they were on the ice) with a cross-seam pass that was almost tipped in. What the heck happened here??
