Green horns looking for green hornsNo. Craig’s replies in the comments indicate that no experienced GM candidates are being considered. They haven’t been considered from the start, it seems. Only looking at green horns.
Craig confirmed this earlier. Chiarelli has not been a candidate for the Coyotes GM position. Now we need to know Chiarelli isn’t a candidate.

Why are you displeased with Karmanos or MacFarland? Their resume looks pretty good. Same as Al Murray. All seem to have more experience than Sullivan or Burke and have been with successful teams.Craig's confirmed interview list:
Sean Burke
Jason Karmanos
Pierre McGuire (ruled out)
Bill Zito (ruled out)
Craig's "other names" (maybe) list:
Bill Armstrong
Kevin Weekes
Mike Futa
Al Murray
Chris MacFarland
Mark Hunter
Ed Olczyk
Ron Hextall (not contacted)
My Rankings:
1. Steve Sullivan (okay)
2. Sean Burke (okay)
3. Mark Hunter (okay)
4. Mike Futa (okay)
5. Bill Armstrong (okay)
6. Al Murray (apprehensive)
7. Chris MacFarland (apprehensive)
8. Jason Karmanos (displeased)
9. Ed Olczyk (angry)
10. Kevin Weekes (angry)
My Guesses:
1. Sean Burke
2. Jason Karmanos
3. Ed Olczyk
4. Chris MacFarland
5. Mike Futa
I’m actually hoping for Burke now because I don’t want anything to do with Karmanos
Hopefully this means they've started calling candidates and are close to a selection.
I think it'll be Burke because that's what ownership believes the fanbase will like best. And yeah if it's between Burke and Karmanos, then definitely Burke.
Tocchet pet hire. Guarantees no accountability for three years (in my opinion, because Tocc gets extended for sure under him). Only ever got a hockey ops job because of his dad. Actual contributions on teams feel questionable but that’s me drawing assumptionsWhat's wrong with Karmanos?
So what. What has Sullivan or Burke done that deserves more credit than Karmanos? In all honesty, I would just as soon hire someone "outside the organization". Almost everyone has a relationship with RT, including Hextall.Karmanos has a relationship with Tocchet. His resume is extensive but it's not necessarily good. He began in Carolina (with no prior experience) where his father owned the franchise. He then followed Rutherford to Pittsburgh.
And big assumptions they are. I'm not saying he would be good, I just don't see the hate.Tocchet pet hire. Stamkos? Unless you mean playing. Al Murray is another name that has been around a successful team. What are the pros and cons of Al Murray? Heard today that Tampa has a forward group without a first round pick... Wouldn't mind getting the brains behind that operation, no?

...
Unless Rutherford and Karmanos were happy to let RT walk?If the Hunters come as a package, they top my list. Some combination of Sullivan and Burke in ops would be fine by me. Futa in the mix as well.
Then find a retired/semi-retired experienced guy like Lombo. Hire him with a fancy title and a monthly check, and tell him his only actual responsibility is to conf call once a week and act as a sounding board for Burke and Sullivan or Futa or whoever. Sort of like Maloney 's Calgary gig.
And honestly, even the names everyone hates like Karmanos wouldn't bother me in the right role. Started with 15 years bouncing around hockey ops positions in Carolina, then as a nominal VP Ops for three years in Pittsburgh where Rutherford liked him enough in Carolina to bring him over. Named AGM in Pittsburgh after three years, ostensibly with a larger role for the last three years. He's at least paid his dues with 21 years in hockey ops. Doesn't make him a great hire, but it's a hell of a lot better than starting a completely green Weekes or Eddie O whose CV's are basically NHL-player, popular TV talking -head. By far the scariest thing about Karmanos would be the Tocchet connection.

Pro: He’s a world-class amateur scout. Con: I’m not sure he has a whole lot of experience beyond that. What are the pros and cons of Al Murray? Heard today that Tampa has a forward group without a first round pick... Wouldn't mind getting the brains behind that operation, no?
