That was an initial thought that came to my mind.Splatman Phanutier said:Besides the whole schpeel about roles and such (ie. Kris Draper being on Team Canada at the World Cup) maybe it has something to do with the fact that Brent Sutter already has his team picked out in his mind, and some players are easier to cut now then later?
Just a thought
JasonMacIsaac said:A little bit of both. My main point is the type ofplayers he picked. With Gatzlaf and Carter going out vs the opposing teams top players then I don't see the need for a pure checking line.
The biast portion has mainly to do with the type of players he likes. He likes those checking line players who do play in the WHL so his list favors the WHL an alot.
The goaltender selections are way off IMO but everyone seems scared to pick Martin Houle. In the draft till Philly got him and for Team Canada.

Well your going to get that from any coach you pickJasonMacIsaac said:A little bit of both. My main point is the type ofplayers he picked. With Gatzlaf and Carter going out vs the opposing teams top players then I don't see the need for a pure checking line.

Thing with calgary is that they don't have the option accessing those skilled players. Team Canada does. If Calgary could grap a Sundin or Modano they would. Sometimes the later works though.Splatman Phanutier said:Well your going to get that from any coach you pick
Personally (this comes form a fan of a low-budget NHL team that relies on blue-collar players) I actually perfer coaches with a direction then ones that slab together a bunch of talent and cross their fingers. I really hate to use examples of my own team, but when you compare the Flames to, say New York or (Now) Dallas Stars or (Now) Detriot Red Wings or even maybe the Leafs, what you see is a bunch of talent thrown together with management hoping everything will come together. Now, being a fan of a small market team, I have a certain level of respect for the Oilers, Preds and Sharks, who really don't have all the talent in the world, but have a common direction that alot of the "elite" talent teams don't.
The goaltenders, though, I don't know. To be perfectly honest, I don't know any of the names except Dubnyk.
You mean players who have both skill AND heart?JasonMacIsaac said:Thing with calgary is that they don't have the option accessing those skilled players. Team Canada does. If Calgary could grap a Sundin or Modano they would. Sometimes the later works though.
JasonMacIsaac said:Fine, that still doesn't make him a better hockey mind then Vigneault. Vigneault basicly runs everything in PEI and what was suppost to be one of the worst teams, turned into a playoff contender.
JasonMacIsaac said:The point I am argueing is that Bourret is the better player now.
No they don't. If that were the case then players like Perry or locke would be way up there in terms of rankings and PF like Horton, Pyatt or Rupp would be in the 3rd or 4th rounds.Van said:That's basically what Sutter did in Red Deer, and he has a Memorial Cup ring to show for it.
How does that make sense when Brulé is ranked miles higher than Bourret by any scouting service? Scouting service projects players based on how good they are now. Not everybody drafted in the first round makes it big. If these scouting services could see the future that well, Martin St.Louis would have been drafted.
Bourret has a better shot, is more physical, is bigger (weight) and has played on the 3rd and 4th line before....not playing on the scoring lines won't bother him as much nor is it a new thing.Epsilon said:I don't see how Bourret is better than Brule under any criteria (either is a prospect or as a CHL player).
I would take a bet that there is. Fans aren't alloways the dumbest crowd. I am willing to bet there are atleast 20 future scouts on this site who have not gotten a break or realized that they have a talent.Orv said:Is it just me or has the origional poster not said a peep since like page 6 or since he was called out. This thread is a joke. There is not one person on this board who has more hockey knowledge than Sutter. So you can whine and cry about your players not making it but the bottom line is that I, along with the majority of Canadians will put their trust in the hands of the man in charge.

I didn't say 20 are smarter then Sutter. I said atleast 20 would be future scouts. I bet there are some on here (who are scouts) who know more about hockey then Sutter.Orv said:There are people on here with more hockey knowledge than Brent Sutter?? More talent than Brent Sutter?? I did not realize we were in the presence of at least 20 people who could play over 1100 NHL games, coach their way to a Memorial Cup, be pursued to coach the most important hockey team in this country right now. That doesn't even figure in being a member of the First Family of Hockey. Grace Sutter knows more about hockey than the majority of the fans on here.
But anyways, I hope these 20+ people find their talent soon because adding 20+people to the hockey world who know more than Brent Sutter can only be a good thing.
I'll give Brule that department..for a 4th liner do you really have to be a leader.Van said:Brulé has been a team leader since his first game as a 16 year-old. He built himself up as a capable Major Junior player when he played Jr.A as a 15 year-old in the BCHL.

To put this all into perspective for you I said no one is as smart as Sutter when it comes to hockey, you said there is, I questioned that, you said you didn't say that there were but you did.
So you agree that no one here has the HOCKEY KNOWLEDGE of Brent Sutter.
Yes, who's to say a future Adam's winner doesn't post here. We allready have many many scouts, tv analysts and players posting here. Hell, NHL coaches may even post here for all we know.Orv said:So do you think there are people here that have more hockey knowledge than Brent Sutter?
