Canada = Germany
I think this is a good match. Cannot write them out in any tournament. They were/are/will be one of the top country in hokcey/soccer. Both country play the team game very well with decent skill players(not the most skilled). I think no other countries play the team game better than those two.

Canada is arguably the most talented hockey nation in the world. Germany isn't even top 10 in terms of individual talent, that, and the Germans haven't been considered actual candidates since Euro 1996.

Dick is still trying to find the right mix of players. After the game he announced that his system failed (took him 20 games to realise that) and he's going with a complete new one against the Germans, playing with two attacking wings, while with only one striker (probably Kluivert, if not Ruud, then Makaay, then van Hooijdonk, in that order I assume).

I bet the Dutch look like a hopeless bunch of spoiled brats now, but I can assure you that they will look completely different and very motivated on the 15th of June.

I'm sorry but your posts really suck. If the Germans are so bad than please tell me, why has Germany won 4 WC's und 4 EC's ???
The Germans might not be Brazillians but if they had no skills they wouldn't be that successfull. For german players the most important thing is discipline, fighting and team spirit. Like it or not but thats the only way to be successfull. The Dutch players might be more skilled but they will never win a world cup!
By the way, how many of your so skilled players are real dutch players and how many are from overseas?

Maybe I should've posted it in German since you obviously have trouble understanding the English language. But here it goes anyways; I was talking about the present time. While both nations have had a great career in their respective sport, Canada has maintained that line, Germany has not. The Canadiens are probably one of the top two favorites of every tournament they participate at, Germany, right now, has about 5 teams, at least, higher on the charts that have higher chances of succeeding. That, and in terms of talent, Germany has nothing on Canada. Germany actually has a rather poor bunch of individual talent in comparison with their contenders.

There is a clear difference between the past and the present. Plus the Germans have other qualities that make up for some deficit of individual talent. I think that M=D was not too far off from reality with that statement.

You've got players with foreign origin in your team as well.

Mh, no, all players are of German origin.

That is a bit of an advantage for countries like France, Netherlands or England, because players from their former colonies can play for them, too.

I don't think the individual talent is different in the most successfull countries. Many professional players from Europe could easily play like Brazilians do, it's just not their style.

Germany is certainly not a favorit for the titel, the defense is to weak and the forwards aren't dangerous at all, but sometimes things like that don't matter.

Holland hasn't lost against Germany in a long time and the Czech Republic should be stronger, too. If they play like they played against Hungary today ( :banghead: :shakehead ) they will lose all games.

OK, I was trying to stay out of this weird weird thread but I just can't. England has won one title. Ever. England has very few players that compare to the best in the other "great" nations teams. Are swedish players that bad that you compare Markus Näslund with some english pitbull-looking cross country runner with two left feet?

Slovakia ain't Sweden (soccer). Slovakia has lots of very talented ice hockey players, and plays very imaginative hockey. Team sweden play robotic soccer and lack very much individual skill except for a few gifted players that mostly are stuck on the bench anyway.

Are you saying you wouldn't compare the likes of David Beckham, Ashley Cole and Steven Gerrard and on his day Michael Owen, in football to the likes of Forsberg and Naslund in Ice Hockey.

Forsberg = Beckham
Naslund = Gerrard

WTF..

Forsberg is arguably the league's top hockey player (there, I said it), David Beckham should be lucky if he gets considered as a top 50 football player in the world. Same for Gerrard..

Yeah, it's weird that half of the players of those three european national teams are black. It's cheating. :mad: ;)

Beckham is one of Real Madrid's galacticos. Although I agree he is overrated, saying he would be "lucky" just sounds petty in that context.

Gerrard is an up and coming player who could be one of the stars of the tournament if England catch fire. Many coaches think he is as good as Patrick Vieira already.. it will be great to watch the two of them go head to head in the very first group game.

Raul, Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Cassilas, Roberto Carlos, etc.. Without the hype, Beckham is a solid player but he can't really be considered as one of Madrid's top players. Though that is nothing to be ashamed of.. Him being compared with the best hockeyplayer in the world is quite laughable..

Gerrard is a fine young player, but what makes him so superior above say Aimar, Sneijder, Ballack, van der Vaart, etc? Definitely not accurate to compare him with the NHL's top offensive producer over the past 5 seasons..

Beckham is, to use one of your favored phrases, "indisputably" one of Madrid's top players. He *is* a galactico. What is quite laughable here is your pettiness in refusing to acknowledge it. Casillas is such a star you cant spell his name. Roberto Carlos and Figo are not the players they were. Beckham is not below those guys. The use of "etc" was comical since there are no more as Real Madrid are a "Zidanes y Pavones" team.

I didnt make the comparision or say he's superior to all those guys. I definitely think he's on a par with them, with the exception of Ballack who is already a genuine star. Although Gerrard did totally eclipse him in the 5-0 thrashing. Its a real shame he wasnt fit for the last World Cup.

yep he's Polish and there are also the other Polish traitors, Podolski and Trochowski. As for the rest of the team there are Kuranyi, Asamoah and Bobic. VERY German if you ask me :p:

Podolski, Trochowski, Klose and Bobic grew up in Germany as far as I know and speak German without any accent, they are as least as German as Polish or Slovenian/Croatian.

My grandfather is from Poland too as is my last name that doesn't me Polish though.
Half of Germany has Polish last names.

My grand-grand-father came also from "Schlesien"(Poland).You shouldn't forget that there are also thousand of Germans(citizens with German names) still living in Poland,Kazakhstan,Russia and Czech Republic.

My parents are now living in Herrmannstadt(Rumania) and i was surprised that Rumania as an important minority of 200-300 000 Germans!!

Klose and Freier are not really Polish names(coming from Poland) and Eduard Lewandowski,Boris Blank, Aab(coming from Kazakhstan), Reichel,Seeliger(coming from the Czech Republic) are German names.

Uhm... Lewandowski really doesn't sound german to me. Could you explain how it can be a german name (and are there more examples like this?). :)

Btw, are there a lot of Reichels in germany?

How do you pronounce Lewandowski ?

"Lee-wan-dow-ski"? or "Leh-van-dov-ski" ?

Haha, you put the answer there by yourself already... I think your own guess pretty much was choice B (and it is, unless you meant how an american would pronounce it). :)
