Interesting, I was wondering why I couldn't find any new Topps hockey cards.

At one time, the NHL told all of the little companies to scram (Leaf, ITG, Pacific, etc.) and only offered licenses to UD and Topps. But for the new exclusivity, they asked for a much higher licensing fee. UD said yes, Topps said no, not worth it. So then we only had UD. Later Panini was willing to pay the higher fee and it was those two. Then most recently, the NHL told Panini to scram and only offered a license to UD.

Hmmmmm......I wonder if they would accept an I.O.U ????? :dunno:

from fox13news.com:

Dr. Newman passed away in January at the age of 73 from COVID-19. His collection is about go up for public auction through Memory Lane Auctions.

Beginning in June, more than 1,000 pieces will be up for bid, but there is one that stands out from the rest: A very rare Babe Ruth card in near-mint condition.

"We have one particular piece, you asked what is the most valuable, it’s a ‘33 Goudey gum card, produced in 1933, and it is the only one that‘s ever been authenticated with a 9 [out of 10 condition rating]," said JP Cohen, president of Memory Lane Inc.

Because it’s in such good shape and is so rare, it's expected to break the world record of $5.2 million for a sports card. The entire collection is valued at more than $20 million.

Other players in the collection include names like Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig, Honus Wagner, Ted Williams and Cy Young. There's also a near-perfect Topps 1952 Mickey Mantle rookie card that is expected to sell for more than $1-million.

That Ruth is pretty clearly trimmed. Look at other cards from the set, border are quite a bit wider. There is a reason it is the only 9 in existence.

And just like I predicted, once the world opened back up the prices across the board would drop.

If anybody was actually paying the ridiculous pandemic prices for low end, you, are a sucker.

Did the world open up?
Yes it did.

I stated the entire time, high end is where the money is and that the low end sales would flop like a guy wearing a blow up sumo suit on a trampoline.

If you don't have vintage, LBJ or Tom Brady, you really don't have anything.

Once all the shut in speculators leave, and they will, the hobby will be at a lower price point then before the pandemic started.

That cards been circulating for awhile.

I think it was part of the huge trimming scam a few years ago but I might be wrong.

Not much change here.

Where are the prices dropping? Hobby boxes are still $180 for UDS2.

Prices have dropped a little. But they're now 3-4 times what they were a year ago, instead of 4-5 times. It's not a huge drop, and still way over what they were a year ago. A lot of the drops are player specific too. For example, McDavid's values have dropped. MacKinnon's continue to rise.

Best hockey card I own, as a lifelong Ranger fan of course I pulled a pack with this.

#15/15 - auto on card, glove material.

I've never seen another one of these posted online which I think is pretty cool

Also side note on the above card, do I get something like this graded? I'm always unsure about cards with game used/autos and sending them out.

Matthews is still climbing too. Paid $325 for PSA 10 Young Guns on 6/30/20. Last time I checked E-Bay it was going for $1,250 and listings a moment ago as high as $1,800.

Definitely a nice card. I love how those shiny black cards with white/bright autos look in person.

Would not grade though, unless you want to preserve the card and you think it will look nicer in a slab. Grading probably won't add value. Firstly, the value of those cards is largely dictated by the quality of the patch or memorabilia. Secondly, the thick cards are tough to get good grades on. If it was a key rookie card that was in prestine looking shape, I would grade. Otherwise, with a thick card I would never grade.

Was trying to get a mcavoy fwa for a buddy. They are even more expensive now than months ago.

Sure Jordan rookies dropped by 50% but that's just manipulated BS.
They've been doing that for years.

Look what a makar psa 10 young guns sells for....lol

That one makes sense, it is a patch rookie which tends to hold a lot of value. The brady one is also a special signature too. I think he means the basic rookies that are out there, ebay has some under 1000.
There is no basic LBJ rookie outside of his Topps and even then anybody without one should pounce on it under a grand if graded at least a 9.

Long story short, hockey isn't the sport to invest in no matter what anybody wants to think or speculate.

My advice? Wait. The prices will drop below the prices before the pandemic.

And I'll just point this out;

Makar YG's sell around 600 at PSA 10

A LeBron FE rookie, the knock off of the actual Topps rookie, just sold for 44k in PSA 10

But you heard it here first, LeBron is "down big"

If anybody wants to trade LBJ rookies for Makar YG's, DM me
