LOL. I love TSN but a lot of time, I have NO idea what they are doing.Following this game by watching a liveblog on Hockey Canada's website, because TSN - Canada's sports leader - has the US - Germany game on its main network and the highlights of a match of a soccer tournament Canada has been eliminated from on TSN2.
I have TSN and TSN2 at work and that's it.That SHOULD be enough.

Canada game is on TSN 5 - FYI.
Fair enough. TBH, you're not missing much - minus this game which has been pretty good.I have TSN and TSN2 at work and that's it.
I get that this is a niche tournament in the middle of the summer, so I could see TSN relegating it to lower down in their priority list. But they're showing the US team play whack-a-mole with a weak German team instead of showing Canada's game in the same tournament? It's just a bizarre choice.Fair enough. Because the U.S. smoked Sweden, I am sure they will advance. So what does USA need to have happen to advance now that they smoked Germany? If Sweden wins over Czech then three teams are 2-1 with a win and loss amongst to the others.

Don't try to understand TSN. It's a waste of energy.TSN showing the USA game instead of the Canada game on their main network is a bit perplexing.
They want to encourage people to buy all 5 channels - they punish you if you don't by putting the game on TSN 5.I get that this is a niche tournament in the middle of the summer, so I could see TSN relegating it to lower down in their priority list. LOL. I agree. 3 teams should advance.I will feel awful for the Swiss if they win 2 games and get eliminated. Usually 2 wins is a ticket to semis.
I blame Finland for pissing off Canada lol
Yes. Nice to see. We look... good.TSN was showing both.
Really great all-around performance from Canada. Catton is embracing being The Guy.
Good luck, my friend.Big Czech Sweden game coming up... I think Sweden needs to beat us by 6. They've certainly done it before.
All 4 goals against us were bad breakdowns and the Swedes love those.
Majority of our goals have been of the pretty tic tac toe style... I can't see those working against them.
I think Sweden wins... Just not sure by how much. Imagine winning your first game by ten goals and possibly being eliminated?!

Very good post. Was a good tournament. That's what counts. Lots of good things and if we play vs Canada the way we played vs Finland we probably don't lose by more than 2. Still, I'm fine with the tournament. Young
inexperienced coach who hopefully learned his lesson. Played the wrong goaltender and went into the game with the wrong mindset. Unlike in the first two games they didn't try to make plays until it was late. They tried not to allow more than 2 goals which is a faulty strategy vs Canada. That was never gonna work. Another lesson is that you shouldn't move your best and most experienced Center to the wing. Especially vs Canada Antenen would have been important to shut down the most dangerous Canadians and control the pace of the game down the middle. But better to get these experiments out of the way now than to do that sort of stuff at the WJC18. I expect smarter coaching decisions there or I'm gonna be upset. For now I'm not.
Of course the team could still make the semis but I'm not holding my breath. The Slovaks can score and I think they'll do so today but I don't think they're anywhere solid enough to compete with Finland for 60'.
Unless Sweden wins by exactly 5, the U.S. will finish 2nd and play Canada in the Semis. So what does USA need to have happen to advance now that they smoked Germany? If Sweden wins over Czech then three teams are 2-1 with a win and loss amongst to the others.
This is a weird tournament to be labeled "U18" when the summer timing of it such that anybody in the oldest birth year eligible born in the last 5 months of the year is still 16. So it's really like a U17.5
I would think the next tiebreaker would be goals scored. That's the norm in IIHF competition. So if Sweden wins 8-3 or 9-4 (as opposed to 6-1) then Sweden and the Czechs would advance and the US is eliminated. If Sweden wins 6-1 or 5-0 then the Czechs and US would advance and Sweden is eliminated.Feel free to correct me if I am wrong - I can't remember the exact scores of games and there is no website out there that is completely caught up.
U.S. lost to Czechia by 5 but beat Sweden by 5 so the U.S. is +0.
Sweden is -5 vs Czechia is +5
It's hard to imagine the U.S. not advancing unless Sweden wins by exactly 5 and another tie breaker kicks in.
Your math is better than mine. Good job.I would think the next tiebreaker would be goals scored. That's the norm in IIHF competition. I used all 12 of my fingers to count.Your math is better than mine. Good job.![]()
