U18: Hlinka Gretzky Cup

How has my boy McQueen looked?
I was never a fan but he was good in "Bullitt".

Final message ill post about this if I understood what Gord Miller said

Canada needs to beat Switzerland by atleast 3 goals to advance that is if Finland wins Slovakia
3? I thought it would be 5. Well, 3 is at least doable.

Canada is -3 if they win by 3 theyre 0
Swiss is +2 if they loose by 3 they are -1

so 3 goal routing for Canada will do... if Finns loose then less will do

Czechs with another win... I understand we make semis if Sweden doesn't beat us by 6.

Benak with 5 points so far... Is their an underager with more points?

Gotta go with Lachat on Wednesday and I kinda like our chances of eliminating Canada. However, with Kirsch in net I don't know what we're gonna get. The tournament might end in an ugly way.

Of course that's assuming Finland beats Slovakia. I'd be surprised if they don't though.

Slovakia 4:14 Canada

- Why was Rafaj the starting goalie in the net after yesterday match?

- There is one defender that I won't name but he just gives up most of the time and plays so casual.. That's why it's so easy to score against us.

- Awful PP so far we can't even shoot more than twice.

Unfortunately Refs will decide if its a route or not tomorrow by Canada. Depends how much the clutching and grabbing and interference is let go.

Obviously his statement was a bit exaggerated in order to clarify how dominant the line was. He also meant the Reber line that was involved in three of our goals and not the line around Grossniklaus.
... bit exaggerated. I noticed that you have couldn't write any criticism about him, just agree. He exaggerates very often.

I agree Reber was dominated yesterday. On the other side slovak players closed in the offensive zone of the Swiss players for the same amount of time. The ratio of shots speaks clearly... (24:11)

Excellent. He’s going to go top five in 2025, as long as he continues to progress. I’m expecting a big season from him.
Very early but I enjoy your views on draft picks.. who do you think is the Top 5 today going into the next draft?

Not that it matters but I have disagreed with at Hinterland many times on this forum. Just a few days ago for that matter in our Ivan Hlinka thread. I don't agree with all of his takes at all. But its actually true that the Reber line really dominated possession vs the Slovak at times and was able to hold on to the puck in the opposing zone for long stretches of time. Especially in the first half of the game. Therefore I don't think the phrasing in question was completely wrong. But its equally true that the Slovaks dominated possession against some of the other Swiss lines. No one is questioning this.

Gonna make another list for the 2024 draft after the Hlinka, but probably something like this.

2024

1. Catton
2. Demidov
3. Celebrini
4. Levshunov
5. Eiserman

2025 (not counting the 2007 Canadian and American born players we've yet to see in junior)

1. Hagens
2. Misa
3. McQueen
4. Hensler
5. Martone

I'd have Jiricek 6th. Could definitely see a way he cracks the top 5, although I feel comfortable for now on those 5 as the top 5. And then for 2025, it's so early. Definitely a chance for Benak, but it'll depend on how much he physically grows.

Benak is beautiful but I'm guessing somewhere between 15 to 30... Solely because of his size. He's been a tonne of fun to watch.

Jiricek top 10 would be nice.. hoping badinka and galvas can crack first 2 rounds. Time will tell.

Not to mention Catton looked pretty bad at the U18s, especially in comparison.

Dude is getting ahead of himself.
Catton didn’t really look bad though. He was put on the third line, and produced as such. It’s fair to say Celebrini did very well in a lead role, but for the role Catton was assigned, he didn’t do bad.
