Its a chronic issue in all of our junior teams. I have given up hope that this will get better in the next decade or so.

Totally agree, however, this tournament has a short round robin with only three games. This is not the WC where there are 7 RR game sand plenty of time to overcome an early loss. One moe loss or a tie in the next two games and we don't move on.
