So what are your guys' top scorer list looking like? I expect Holtz and Kakko battle it out for goals scoring if Kakko is playing. Lafreniere or Hughes to win in points though. I expect Nikkanen to rise up the rankings rapidly after this tourney as he seems a bit underrated.
I don't think Kakko will play as he was with the U20 team. Hughes was with the USA U20 team too so probably not him either.

Hlinka Gretzky being in Canada is the proper thing to do.

The broadcasting quality will be so much better than what we've been used to with it in Europe.
Hey snipes!!

Jim Hughson was in my line at safeway today in Penticton, light t-shirt and khaki shorts, real bahama. He must be taking in the sunny Okanagan in the offseason.

I looked at him and went........."greeeaaat save by Luongo!!"

He chuckled and rolled his eyes which told me he had heard that yarn a thousand times in public.

Lol that's too funny.

Hope you're having a good vacation brother, Penticton is a long ways for you to go!

Not far at all my good friend, born and raised in Cape Breton Nova Scotia but have lived here in Penticton for the last 11 years.

I can cartwheel through the winters here, it's a place to stay forever. Never do I want to experience a northwestern wind coming off the Atlantic in the middle of february ever again, unless of course I am playing a game of shinny on the Bras d'or lake with my friends, I would gladly make an exception for that.

That's right for some reason I thought it was full time in Nova Scotia.

Anyways, the Hlinka should be good I'm excited about it being in Canada, we'll get a good look at the next wave. Look for Byram on D to be a beast.

Never have seen him play a shift yet so yeah I will be focusing on him, I've heard mixed reviews about him from Dub guys here who post, some seem to think he is the cats meow, some think he's raw and overrated.

I need a look.

You are acting like the streams were recorded on some potato here in Europe. Both Breclav and Bratislava streams were HD, the only downside they had were perhaps the local commenators.
Canada's streams for the U17 WHC are worse, in fact, some were bordering with being unwatchable.

So who are the Czech players to watch for? How do you like their chances in the most lopsised pools in history? Where are you watching Czech games? Tsn is doing an amazing job of streaming the other pool which will have almost zero drama in it.

Martin Has, Michal Teply, Martin Lang and Filip Prikryl. Underagers Novak and Malik as well, but that goes without saying I guess. The pools are horrible, but I think they have about as good chance as anybody in that group. I expect all the games to be close. I have no idea where to watch it. Seems like TSN only cares about team Canada, although I guess even Red Deer group will have some streams.

Looks like TSN is only available to use in Canada. Anyone has any other info on that?

I’m not too familiar with this tournament, but I plan on watching some games this year. One question what are the rules and guidelines that make players eligible for this tournament? I noticed some 2019 eligible players are playing, but others like Jack Hughes are not playing. Is there a reason Hughes won’t be at this tournament?

Hughes is at the Summer Showcase. Same with Kakko.

Any player born in 2001 or after is eligible

Hughes is at the WJSS, any player born in 2001 or after is eligible for the Hlinka

It’s wild how spectacularly the North American fans in ths thread are missing the point... “It’s fine with me, more exposure, who cares about ethnocentrism,” etc. That’s like a bunch of white people assuring the public the decision to cancel Black History Month is fine with them. No one airing this grievance cares about *your* thoughts on the subject...? Accept that the tournament has particular cultural significance you don’t understand in Slovakia and the Czech Republic and people are pissed that its brand and history are being diluted with the ongoing commercial Gretzkyfication campaign and move on.

Obviously there are pros and cons to the change, it’s making the tournament financially viable, etc., but some people have a very specific issue (i. e. disrespect for the history of the tournament) and lecturing them about how much better it is to hold it in Canada because that’s where you live misses the point and makes you look dumb.

No one is looking dumb, some fans are looking whiny though.

They didn't want it bad enough to keep it so it got moved, tough!!

Deal with it and move on.

The tournament being in Canada is only temporary as of now... It will be back in Czech Republic and Slovakia next year... And then Canada will host it again in 2020 and 2022...

I'm czech and I like this format (every second year at home) .
I absolutely hate the name "Hlinka Gretzky tournament". As I said earlier it should be something like World junior hockey games with two groups Hlinka group and Gretzky group. And the winner would win Hlinka Cup/Trophy.
