Do all 5 of those players play in the CHL? NoHe means, top5 CHL players?
Do all 5 of those players play in the CHL? No
Nope, one of them is Swedish. And this segment is also for a Canadian audience, and of course TSN wants to create some hype by promoting Canadian players. Nothing wrong with that. But they are all from NA...
They are also only airing the Canadian side of the bracket for the Round Robin (Canada, Sweden, Slovakia and Switzerland). Plus, with no USNTDP players there and I don't think Kakko coming, his choices aren't really extreme. Although, I do think he should have listed Cajkovic. But, the only must list was Lafreniere. For those other 4 spots, I could probably throw out maybe 5 to 10 different viable names (Dach, Kaliyev, Cajkovic, Podkolzin, Soderstrom, R. Suzuki, Murray, M. Robertson).Nope, one of them is Swedish. And this segment is also for a Canadian audience, and of course TSN wants to create some hype by promoting Canadian players. Nothing wrong with that.

That is why hijacking this tournament instantly scratched it from my to follow list.Nope, one of them is Swedish. And this segment is also for a Canadian audience, and of course TSN wants to create some hype by promoting Canadian players. Nothing wrong with that.
I think that TSN will have a pretty good coverage with the tournament being held in Canada, but yes, I agree that it should have been kept in Europe. It was a nice little tradition with the NA teams coming to this side of the pond in early August. That is why hijacking this tournament instantly scratched it from my to follow list.
No offence, but this is now yet another one junior tournament held in NA. And it used to be special and have a rep of an unofficial world championship.I think that TSN will have a pretty good coverage with the tournament being held in Canada, but yes, I agree that it should have been kept in Europe. Okay I suppose it is really just the adding "Gretzky" that is annoying. Hlinka deserves the individual recognition - Gretzky already is hailed universally as a great player, whereas many non-Czechs don't know about Hlinka. A shame.I think it's fine it's held in N.A, Europe is a football continent anyway, it's not really hockey country.
Let them kick the ball around.
Having his name there isn't going to get fans from north America interested in Hlinka though, for them it's just a name on a tournament.Okay I suppose it is really just the adding "Gretzky" that is annoying. N.A is not hockey "country" either, american football or whatever is the most popular sport over there. And by your logic we should just cancel every hockey tournaments taking place in Europe, because only Canada is worthy of having them.I think it's fine it's held in N.A, Europe is a football continent anyway, it's not really hockey country.
A tournament like this only get's in the way of letting them kick the ball around.
WHC is in Europe every year because neither Canada or USA wants to host it.Well said.
I mean, should we stop watching the WHC because it's in Europe every year? Of course not and fans here aren't that petty.
It's just ethnocentric rubbish with fans like him.
There were quality streams for all the games in the Czech group and not hard to find either. The links were on the official Hlinka page. How easier can it be?I don't care where its played (as long as its safe and not an unreasonable location) as long as we get good coverage of it television-wise. That didn't happen when it was in the Czech Republic, where it was only really easy last year to find the streams for the Bratislava game. As someone in Canada, TSN covering a significant portion of the tournament live is a boon for viewers. It will probably also help in regards to reliable online streams.
Yeah, we hear that excuse all the time about the WHC not being held in Canada because they don't want it.N.A is not hockey "country" either, american football or whatever is the most popular sport over there. You hear it all the time, because all the time someone like you tries to use it as an argument. Why would anyone force Canada to host the WHC when they have a number of European countries bidding for the tournament?Yeah, we hear that excuse all the time about the WHC not being held in Canada because they don't want it.
I guess Europe doesn't want the Hlinka very much then or it would be there every year right? excuse me, I meant the Hlinka/Gretzky.
Bottom line, it's in Canada, watch or don't watch but if you don't watch it I hope you have a better reason then over the top nationalism.

This has nothing to do with nationalism. It's Hockey Canada trying to create a new tournament on the basis of another. If you want to create some silly Gretzky tournament with his 99 as the logo, don't do it at the cost of a traditional one.
