Maybe another one to poach, we need to up our game in that area.
Yeah, and this time we will have a full roster hopefully.. Frondell, Ihs-Wozniak, Annborn and Härenstam have all been with the u18 team recent tourneys so im excited to see how they will do.I expect Sweden to be a contender, Frondell, Ihs-Wozniak, Boumedienne, Härenstam on the team.
Basically the best squad available, minus forwards Nestrasil and Frolo. Not sure what the issue here is, but I assume the coach simply wanted to have some high energy smallish players on the team in Fasner and Samal. The forward core is so deep good players had to be left out no matter what. Frolo will hopefully get his chance once some players leave for the CHL.NOMINACE: Osmnáctka vyrazí na Hlinka Gretzky Cup i s parádní posilou | Hokej.cz - web českého hokeje
Czech nomination. I would say not very suprising and most of the big names are there including Mrtka, Benak and Novotny ... team looking really good on paper .. but that U18 before WCH looked good too lol and we all know what happened
EDIT: Of course Dravecky is the obvious suprise lol, kinda forgot about that .. guy played for Slovakia till now but looks like we stole himFinally we are the ones who does the robbing (cough cough Hejduk, Bonk. FIscher, Stefan lol)
He looks like a solid prospect for 26 draft .. already have 16 games in Slovak league with men, now going to Swedish U20 .. so definitely interesting prospect we got there .. good news

Regarding Nestrasil and Frolo, i was already thinking too.. Perhaps there are no other circumstances involved. Maybe it will simply be that the other nominated players are more defensive. I really have no idea, but as you write, maybe both will get a chance another time.Basically the best squad available, minus forwards Nestrasil and Frolo. Dravecky is a fine addition of course, strong individual skill, but he needs to improve defensively and more importantly, use his teammates more. Whenever I have seen him play, he wanted to be the one scoring goals, deking everybody around... that's not going to work for long.
Zero complaints with the goalies selected, just wonder if Martin Fajmon can get back on track this upcoming season, the room will be there for taking with Stebestak going the WHL route. The clear undisputed no.1 goalie in the U16 category, and only a year later he was literally unusable at international stage. One of the biggest regressions I have witnessed.
Considering Czechs get to avoid Canada and Sweden in the group stage, the expectations definitely need to be medal rounds here. Hopefully Czech coach goes with the gameplan that worked at the previous Hlinka tournament and not the one he used at the recent U18 WC... lol
Highly doubt that the 07 group is more top heavy than the 06 one. My favourite prospect is probably Birchler. I have only seen one bad game from him for the junior national teams. In addition to that some solid ones and a few ones where he really stood on his head. Has great height for a goaltender too. Not sure if I would put him ahead of Neuenschwander/Lachat though at this point. To early to say. The Ivan Hlinka might be a good indicator for questions like that. Liked Trachsel too but only have seen him in a couple of games. The Swiss U18 roster for the Summer camp in Davos. Expect the Hlinka Gretzky roster to look very similar.
Overall a rather underwhelming group, not nearly as strong or deep as the 06 born kids. Might be more top heavy though. Both Matia Birchler and Jovin Trachsel are excellent goalie prospects, defenseman Dorian Moret is very promising and upfront, Florian Schenk and Lars Steiner might be the best Center prospects to come out of Switzerland in a while. Other names I'm interested in include defenseman Guus Van der Kaaij who almost made the WJC18 team last season and forwards Jeremiah Mundy and Daniele Wagner who I think do have some upside. I'm not sure there's gonna be much to see beyond that. As I said...07 birthyear probably not very good or deep.
That's a good point. The 08 forward group is very deep. Many of them are already better than half of the 07 forwards selected. Also, in the U17 elite league, 08 born Niccolo Castiglioni led defensemen in scoring. Since the 07 birth year isn't very strong overall it would make sense to select underagers for international tournaments. It can still happen for the Hlinka Gretzky because the U17 team is holding a separate summer camp in Davos but I think if that was the plan those players would have been with the U18 instead of the U17 team. Surprisingly, both Pascal Schürmann and Nolan Rohrbach were left off the U17 summer camp. Not sure what to make of this.Highly doubt that the 07 group is more top heavy than the 06 one. D group looks very weak though in comparison to other years. Van der Kaaji is a decent prospect in his own right but nowhere near guys like Muggli and Ustinkov at the same age. Otherwise the group looks very pedestrian. I also don't share your enthusiasm for Moret. He is a solid defensive minded dman but he never really caught my eye in a meaningful way in my viewings with the NT.
Forward group looks....decent. Hard to describe it any other way. Wagner and Aebli are pretty good all around forwards. Mundy has some decent size. Then you have a few forwards with good skill in Dandois, Peter and Blaha that are undersized and will probably be very ineffective at the U18 level. Schenk and Steiner are obviously the best forwards but I wouldnt go as far as to say they are the best center prospects we had in a while. I was more impressed with Reber at the same age. Sure the two 07 guys don't have the same size issues but they are not as dynamic either. Particularly Schenk has questionable skating and I am not sold on his offensive instincts either, particularly when it comes to goal scoring. Seems to have a pass first mentality, but not in a good way. Steiner doesnt seem to have any glaring weaknesses in his game but I havent made out any standout skills (for our standards) either. Like Rebers (and Schenks) vision/passing or Rebers skating. I need to see him more often to have a real oppionon of him though. But all in all I am still not sure of those guys are really better than Reber or even Taibel and Biasca at the same age.
Overall its not a terrible group but I don't think its a slam dunk for anyone to be drafted. A few players have a somewhat decent shot at it though which is not a bad sign. As a group I don't expect the 07s to be nearly as compeditive as last years team though.
On another note I find it weird, that the coaches never want to bring underagers to this tournament anymore. There are a bunch of 08 forwards I would select over some of the weaker players. I know the lack of physical maturity of the younger players is often brought up to justify this but I don't think that argument is valid this year when a lot of 07 born forwards are pretty undersized as it is.
Ok i misread your post. I thought this was already the definitive IH roster. I still doubt any of the 08 born forwards is gonna make the team though. I mean two years ago no 06 born player made the team either despite the fact that 05 was a weaker birth year too. Not even Ustinkov or Muggli. Maybe it will be different under Schöb this year but I am not holding my breath. That's a good point. The 08 forward group is very deep.
