Problem is...Shanny never "saw through Dubas"...he just fired him because Dubas tried a power play for his job and Shanny was in self preservation mode. He would have come back had it not been for the last minute pay raise ask and autonomy that was purported in the media.
I think he saw through him too late really.

If I recall correctly, Shanahan mentioned that the good faith offer to renew was on the table before Dubas' press conference but that Dubas (and agent) never formally accepted the offer despite Shanahan's advice to do so; Even going so far as advising Dubas to sign the contract, then have the presser.

So you're right. We were fortunate via Dubas' hubris to be in the position we're in.

I'll take the happy accident though.

Pasternak should never have been able to skate right across the crease. Rielly should have knocked him on his ass.

Or Samsonov could have done the same. Woll legit took a tripping penalty last game using his stick to prevent someone going through the crease.

Samsonov stayed in his net and let Pastrnak grab the puck (who Samsonov was closer to), then he didn’t bother using his stick, and then he let Pastrnak beat him to the post. We might as well not have a goalie in net if he’s not going to bother trying to make a save.

Every chance we had on Swayman he used his stick.

Players feel like they're "right there" and it's only a matter of time before they break through:

Absolute losers. Did a single one of them say they need to be better? What a joke.

Willy told him to stop crying and play....then Willy went out and backed it up...and Marner wilted....enough said.

just look at the mindset and the attitude of pastrnak and compare to the entitled bitch attitude of marner

in the last 8 years, NOT ONCE! have I seen Marner take responsibility for his play. NOT ONCE! On the contrary, he blames media, fans, and everything there is to blame except looking at his own play, effort and attitude.

This cancerous mindset and attitude has to be purged from the locker room so the young kids that are developing right now do not have a sense of entitlement.

Just watch Pasta's response

1. Fire entire coaching staff (I think this is already 100%)
2. Rework D-core via trade and free agency.(I didn’t hate our D-core in the playoffs, but you need to find a way like Vegas / Carolina that has a D-core that’s big with some skill to move the puck better)
3. Trade 1st for a top 6 forward.
4. Trade Lilly for another forward.
5. Go to Marner and see if he’s willing to move and sign an extension with another team.
6. Resign Domi.
7. Let every UFA walk

Sadly, you won’t see a real culture change with the team until next year, unless Marner agrees to a trade.

There is absolutely NO WAY Treliving should be buying until tavares and marner are on the cap. Time to RETOOL and be patient. NO reason to rush. Meanwhile give the young kids to gain NHL experience even more (Knies, Robertson, Minten, Cowen, Holmberg, McMann, etc...)

Garbage take and he threw Samsanov under the bus. There were other players on the ice who made no effort on the play. Rielly and Marner both fell asleep and Nylander coasting on the play. That’s why this core group can never win when it counts. No matter how many good, hard working players they bring in. Their core group doesn’t rise to the challenge at critical times.
On that last play just show the habits of the guys.
MM should have the habit of bumping guys entering the zone or at least in their way a little bit.
Reilly just had no clue.
Willie, it looks bad but if he chase down Pastra, and the puck somehow end up on Zacha stick(think he was trailing), it is all Willie fault for not covering Zacha.

And when he has all that cap and signs someone to an overpriced contract, will you say the same?

Hockey is a random sport, give yourself the best chance every year.

And if you want to tear it down, move Matthews and Nylander too, because they aren't getting younger, and wasting a year is foolish.

It was between Brodie and Liljegren. And Liljegren was easily the winner. That should tell you all you need to know. Brodie is ready for the beer leagues.

Are Leaf fans the only ones that can see their team get a single goal in multiple games and blame the goalie for the loss or are there other fanbases just as delusional?

Nope!

There is a way to take risk and there is a way to take calculated risk.

NO WAY Treliving should be buying until Marner and Tavares are off the cap unless it's a Makar type asset which don't usually grow on trees.

Best way forward, is be a seller next TDL; do one to two year contracts this summer that can be sold off at the TDL at premium and then use all that draft capital to acquire pieces to go ALL IN for the rest of Matthews' contract.

It was pretty evident as far as I am concerned based on Treliving's interview which he gave after GM's meeting in Florida.

Show me one clip where marner went to the net with the puck ONE FRAKING CLIP in the playoffs this year

#DitchMitch
just to play devils advocate, look at his goal in game 4 he goes right to the net so i COULD post that clip lol, but the point is valid overall he wont go to the dirty areas even though its where playoff hockey is won and lost.

Tough for Rielly to make a play on a full speed winger who has accelerated though 2 zones.

Marner needs to slow him down, and get in the lane. Mo can make the route a little longer with better positioning

He spent 6 picks this year... he thought the team was good enough, and if he didn't it was a waste to bring in depth guys even, so you two may not see eye to eye.

If we are sellers and in a playoff spot, I'm asking to go to a serious team if I am Matthews.

Treliving and cap space is scary... I wouldn't wish for too much.

Lol, imagine that despite all the anger of the fanbase, Leads decide to keep the coach and marner. Just working on the edges and a couple of new assistants. That would be leafy too.

Samsonov certainly wasn't good for the series. Well below average. If we're just talking about game 7, he had a solid game but unfortunately for him gave up a soft goal less than 2 minutes after we took the 3rd period lead. But yeah, need to score some goals for sure.

I am genuinely curious... what did Hunter do for this organization?

His impeccable drafting?

Lou at least has done some good.
Hunter should have been the GM not Dubas. Never had a chance to do more than draft in the short time he was here

Marner has to go. It's that simple. You want 11 million dollars? You can't constantly be so ineffective in a playoff series past game 3.

Ideally the team strips Tavares of his captaincy and tells him its Matthews' team now. A good captain inspires a team with 4 forwards this talented to more than 1 f***ing playoff series win in 8 years. The series they won was only because Vasilevskiy had one of if not the worst performances in his playoff career.

Obviously Keefe and Boucher are gone too. Keefe has had more than enough chances to figure it out and has failed. Boucher somehow took a team with 3 guys playing near or above 100 point paces and managed to make a powerplay that scored at less than 5% efficiency in the PLAYOFFS.

Find Rielly a partner who can move the puck and knows what the word defence means. He's too old and experienced to be this poor anywhere outside of the offensive zone.
So, run it back it is then
