One guy shouldn't have to score all the goals. It's ridiculous.

After every friggen game I'd be posting, "this guy needs to produce" or, "that guy needs to produce" but nooooo... how does a guy who misses the first three games end up leading the team in goals in the series?

I get that Marner does some shit defensively, but this guy isn't f***ing Bobby Holik. If he's not going to score or assist on goals more often or at critical moments, he needs to go. He's had enough chances. He just doesn't have it in the playoffs. Not with this team anyway. Maybe he can go and be a Phil Kessel (in PIT) somewhere.
There's teams that just want to make the playoffs. Seattle, Utah, Columbus. Keefe and marner can go there. They thrive in the regular season.

Hard not to feel let down by Sammy always finding a way to let in a stiinker or two.

But investing so much cap in skilled forwards should translate to not expecting your goalie to be perfect every game.

I guess only Nylander scored for us in game 6 and 7. That's pretty awesome for him and pathetic for the rest of the team and coach.

How come when people say he's better than Marner in the playoffs, some others say he's really not?

Compare the number of important goals and assists each one has scored the last five years. It has to be getting hard to deny.

I mean in a critical game 7, when you're playing great shutdown defense. You get the game's first goal with 10 minutes left, and then mentally buckle to let Boston pin you back in to tie it up less than 2 minutes later.

... It's just what this team is.

At least we don't have to deal with some moral playoff series win victory to give anyone life .. Keefe should be canned, and big core changes should be made.

The biggest positive was probably Knies in this series.

Like this is a big problem and they need heads to roll for this one way or another. I guess Keefe will take the majority of the heat here, but man... the players are just cursed.

Mitch turns into Houdini every postseason, Tavares is too old now to be of any real use. Willy was hurt to start the series, Matthews got hurt in the middle of it. Morgan was piss poor and no other defenseman offers anything else offensively. And to top it all off, we're coached by a nepo-hire.

Team was built to score and once again they failed to do so. How many games in a row scoring 3 or fewer in the playoffs? It's 14. Jesus Christ that's pathetic given how much money is spent on forwards.

Honestly, I really wanted this win to exorcise the demons of the past with Boston, but it doesn't change the fact that this team needs to shake up the core moving forward in order to become a legitimate contender.

Yes, we had terrible luck with injuries, but that doesn't change the reality of the situation. Even if we advanced, it was very unlikely that we would have beaten Florida, let alone challenge for a Stanley Cup.

The silver lining is that I think long overdue changes will finally take place this off season.
Instead, the demons will get exercise

Luckily for the Leafs - the 2 members of the core who never show up in the playoffs are on their last year of their contract

Wtf was Marner doing? Swayman gave him the puck and he was scared to come to the front of the net?

It was Marner doing what he does in the playoffs.. overthinking when he finally gets some time/space

It was also a bad goal though.

Even the OT goal, did Samsonov forget he has a stick? He let the puck go through the crease without trying to poke check

It's a totally different game in the playoffs.

Time and space gets reduced with the increased speed , intensity and physicality.

You need to consistently be willing to go to the dirty areas and take some punishment.

I don't think it's unfair for any fan to question how much they are willing to sacrifice at this point.

funny but it doesn't feel that way to me at all this time

this is the easiest game 7 loss of them all for some reason

Can't explain why to be honest

Same, because:

1. Numb to losing in the playoffs at this point
2. Major changes are coming (hopefully)
3. The team was likely going to get dusted in the next round anyway

Yea, of course you trade him if you can... my point is the return does not matter. If he won't agree to go... he can walk. Team is better off either way.
Yup.

Get whatever you can if possible but I'd rather lose him for nothing than take a horrible contract like PLD or something back.

He can't be re-signed. He has to be done here, both for the team's sake and his own.

Here we go as a template. Lots of cap space to work with:

Xxx Matthews Nylander
Knies xxx xxx
McMann Domi xxx
Holmberg Kampf Jarnkrok

Rielly xxx
Benoit McCabe
Edmundson xxx

Xxx
Woll
No no no

Jarnkrok cannot be on the team

He can’t play hockey in the playoffs. Get him off the team, I’d take the 2.1 million in cap space and give it to Matt murray
