They signed those contracts before a pandemic.
I'm sure mlse is starting to get tired of shelling out millions so kid Kyle can learn on the job.
What a bad hire that has turned out to be.
Didn't he win that agent poll for the GM that agents would most like to deal with?Hey they won something.
biggest overpayments for star players
They signed those contracts before a pandemic.
don't worry boys, we didn't sign them for their abilities today, rather their future abilities.
they are going to be awesome, don't worry. Dubas understands that. He's playing 4d chess when everyone else is playing checkers.
JT as 7 is pathetic , you'd think he'd set a precedent for the kids and take a reasonable deal for his worth which would have been at tops 9m per but he had to get the ball rolling by giving it to Dubas hard .
11m is a discount ? lolTavares was a UFA and took a discount to sign with the Leafs...it's the RFAs that are greedy...Matthews was comparing himself to McDavid in terms of salary, and Marner thinks he should be paid like Matthews.
11m is a discount ? lol
and they all say they were offered more by another team including Clarkson to try to justify there overpayments . too bad it's almost never confirmed by the team offering more
1 other team was rumored to have offered more and it was only a rumor because it was never confirmed and there's no way Boston and Tampa were offering anywhere near what he signed for$11 million is a discount when other teams were willing to pay more...Tavares was one of the highest profile UFAs to ever hit free agency and he was highly sought after...even if Tavares signed for $9 million, Matthews would still want McDavid money...in fact Matthews is paid more than McDavid on a prorated basis if you account for the fact that he only signed 5 years...his contract is outrageous...Matthews and McDavid share the same agency, and there were talks about McDavid giving the Oilers a discount and Matthews shouldn't make that "mistake"...it was during an interview with his agent...it's Matthews and Marner who are the greedy guys...when they asked for the moon as RFAs, you wonder what they would be asking for when they become UFAs...greedy ba5tards.
Would actually be interested to get a breakdown on the Dubas bill including all the salary retention, LTIR, fired coaches and other expenses beyond the salary cap since he started as GM.
Isn't the whole point of analytics (a la Moneyball) based on the premise of winning more while spending less dollars?
Poor excuse. The cap was flat in 09 because of the world financial crisis. It’s ignorant to assume there would never be tough times ahead. Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffet both held records amount of cash because there was every indicator of a massive recession coming. They liquidated stocks. They signed those contracts before a pandemic.
11.0 x 8 thoughRealistically, I think Matthews got about 700k too much and Marner got about 1.3 million. 11.0 and 9.5 should have been the price tags at the time, IMO. That's 2.0 million, combined with the expected cap increase (which Covid-19 ruined) would have gone a long way towards shoring up the depth of the forward group.
