It's sad to think that a few years back, Hickey was supposed to be the future Kings quarterback....then we traded Visnovsky, drafted Doughty, traded for Johnson and Voynov and Martinez jumped to the show before Hickey...

Now it looks like Doughty, Voynov, and Martinez are the 3 puck movers for the Kings and all are young. One has to drop or get hurt for Hickey to get a spot. The real spot is up for grabs at the stay at home spot since Greene and Scuderi are closing in on UFA and Willie Mitchell is 34 and has only a two year deal as well. That is a spot for a guy like Muzzin.

Hickey has changed his game into a stay at home defenseman. I think the reason the Kings staff is going with Muzzin is because of his size.

I think it might be a mistake... but time will tell.

Since you get to see him play much more often that us West Coasters, how has Hickey progressed?
Would you say he is Manch's #1 d-man?

I probably haven't seen them as much as CTKingsFan, but I have watched a lot of Monarchs games, especially this year, and just came back from seeing one live and yes, Hickey was the best defenseman. He just seems smarter than all the other dman in Manchester.

Not going to fault Lombardi for taking Hickey a few picks early (BOS had their eye on him at #8)when we desperately needed defense. I still think the kid has NHL potential but his injuries early on certainly set him back.

My question is why Hickey though when DL could have picked another defenseman. (Alzner, McDonaugh, Blum, Subban). Was Hickey better than these guys at that time?

Hickey plays the game like Scuds does, Right place, Right time, Correct Hockey play.

Hickey is the best Defensive player in Manchester.

The Kid is no longer a flashy puck mover.

Okay, the first 3 are fine but you can't bring up Subban when criticizing with the luxury of hindsight. He wasn't on anybodys radar in the top 10. It's like saying they should have picked Pavel Datsyuk in the 1st round in '98.

Absolutely agree. The people that expect him to be a puck mover/think he just really sucks/think he will never play in the NHL are those who haven't actually SEEN him this year. The way I see it, Muzzin has the potential to be a Mitchell type player, Hickey can be like Scuds, and Gravel will be an elite shut down defender playing with Dewey and making the best d tandem ever. :sarcasm:

The Kings staff has fallen in love with Muzzin's size and reach. Which I don't agree with, the kid's brains are not there yet.

The problem is Hickey is 5'-10" 182 lbs. How many stay at home guys are that size in the NHL? 1? His name is Mike Weaver and he had to completely change his game from a skilled college player and AHL'er to a physical, big stick carrying D man.

Muzzin is 6'-2", 216 lbs. He wins on just size alone. We've all seen him throw the body in the NHL/AHL...so if he ain't scoring he is banging.

Yes, Hickey was that size.....Five years ago in Jr.

Hickey is 6ft 190 to 195 lbs. He is the size of A-mart and Slava.

Scuds is not exactly huge, he is 6'1" 210 lbs

That's great , but if you constantly turn the puck over (like Muzzin does) you are useless as a D man.

Also Muzzin is bigger than that, he is closer to 6'3" 220 lbs

Have you seen Slava without his hockey gear? He is a small guy. His offense outweighs that though. I just don't see Hickey contributing with his offense at the NHL level and if that is the case, then what is he doing? He doesn't throw big hits, fight, clear the crease...Scuderi is commodity in the NHL. Everyone knows Scud's and his stick and his game. He is a smart hockey player. Martinez, though a bit small, is in good shape and can really shoot the puck and throw the body. If you can't make it on skill, you have to do something else great....what is that for Hickey?

You have not watched Hickey play at all have you ?

Ask some Forwards in the AHL if Thomas Hickey is soft....

I am going to stop having this conversation then.

I've seen highlights this year in Manchester....If that is the case why has Doughty, JJ, Voynov, Martinez and now Muzzin passed him on the depth chart? All those guys made it to the NHL before he did.

Hickey is more physical than you think. He had a highlight reel hit earlier this year and has always played with a bit of an edge.

First of all the Kings staff is in love with Muzzin's size, that's fine he can take up the ice like Mitchell does.

I think that's a mistake but whatever.

A-mart passed Hickey cause Hickey was not even playing (injured).

Slava is an offensive power house.

Hickey over the last two years, has been Manchester's best Defensive player. That was not the case three years ago.

It's called development, And if you can't understand why a Number 2 pick in Drew is in over Hickey.....Well

Johnny I have to seriously question your intelligence with you adding Drew to that list...

Seriously are you trying to argue for arguments sake ?

Johnny, you make up your mind on players and you are set in it. Highlights do not tell the story of much, especially a defenseman like this. When was the last time you seen Scuds in the highlights?

Hickey's a lot better than you give him credit for. Stop being stubborn and accept that a player can change a lot in 5 years.

Hickey is more physical than you think. He had a highlight reel hit earlier this year and has always played with a bit of an edge.

It's ridiculous Hickey is another Purcell in the making. But whatever you can't keep them all.

I hope Hickey gets claimed and gets a shot, proves everyone wrong.

Cause Hickey will, the Kid is NHL ready and has the brain to go with good skills.

This rings SO TRUE.

Person A: Hickey is soft , Hickey has no offense, Hickey is small BLAH BLAH.

Person B: Have you seen Hickey play ?

Person A: Well no not live, a video here or there.....

I'm not hating on the guy, I hope he makes it, I am just wondering why Lombardi and Co. keep calling up everyone else but him? Now they call up Muzzin and put him on waivers. That's a smack in the face.
