DanDaDan was a goddamn fever dream. I think I love it. I can see where some folks might think some bits of it are problematic but that doesn't bother me at all.

It's obviously only 1 season in and 2 is already confirmed for July but even so, it seemed to end on a completely arbitrary point.
DanDaDan is probably my favorite newer anime. The hyper stylized animation, music use, and plot that can only exist properly in that medium make it perfect for me.

The powers that be upgraded us from version 2.2 to 2.3, without warning. It fubar'd everything. Admins are doing their best but we are in wait and see mode at the moment. Hopefully in the next few days things get fixed.

Sooo.... Per the admins, most likely this default theme is here until Monday. Lots and lots of issues with our customizations in the background.

I wanted to ask, I know TW got around to writing a sequel series of MST just recently but I haven't checked it out. Have you? Thoughts? I believe it's pretty well-received.
I just binged the first one on my flight to Taipei two days ago. My jet lagged thoughts are this, Ogie— definitely in a similar vein to the original MST, but not quite as epic yet. The reappearance of some familiar faces didn’t feel as fan service-y as I’d feared, but I have to see how the other two end.

But it’s definitely not like a David Eddings-esque palate swap of characters or anything. There’s a natural evolution to them and the world feels richer and more lived in. It’s definitely not just a retelling of the first series so far.

So as someone who has both read the manga and watched the anime, AoT is absolutely incredible. That said, the ending is pretty unsatisfying IMO even as someone who doesn't fully hate it. A lot of animes really struggle with their endings though, I think FMA:B is the only anime I've watched where everyone feels the ending was great. AoT was an anime that I think any ending either way would have made a group of fans mad.

It's not an anime, but even in ATLA, a lot of people hated the spirit bending ending where Aang just took away Ozai's firebending to be able to beat him without killing him.
Well, I can't comment on the manga, but does it also drag and drag on revealing what is actually going on?

And, I actually loved the ending, and I mean the part that rolled during the credits. THAT should have been made into a season or two, the peace and inevitable destruction, and repeat cycle. That was much more satisfying than the pre-credits ending.

hunterxhunter was a decent ending... or I just cant remember it at all... I donno. Never really cataloged anime series endings before. :dunno:

Honestly that's what I wanted. I was very excited when the news came out because by the end of the original MST I really wanted more stories with these characters. I wasn't sure how it was going to be approached....guessing it's similar to how Legend of Korra Katara/Zuko/Toph would be for a ATLA superfan?

Man I really should try to get back to hxh. I totally enjoyed it but had to abandon around 20-25 eps in and never got back. My anime watching mainly consists of having stuff on during my work days so any of the 100 plus episode behemoths are immediately an obstacle. I'm currently working on finishing season 5 of Danmachi which can obviously get a little bit ecchi but I really enjoy the story, as stupid as it can be at times.

Waiiiit. There are 2 Chinas!?! :sarcasm:

I thought it was just Taiwan and those commie other guys.

But seriously anyone wanting to visit Asia should visit Taiwan. Awesome food, friendly people, beautiful countryside, and just great hospitality.

I liked Osaka okay, but I have no desire to revisit Japan. I am always excited though to get to Taiwan.

The wife finally has her passport so we'll be doing better adventures. Our honeymoon is mid April and we're going to Italy and Greece.

We both want to do Japan and if we're over that way we'll definitely add Taiwan to the list.

Japan has its charms but they are very specific and most Japanese will probably not like you.

I dunno. I just vibe with Taiwanese culture way more, despite 25+ years of doing judo and watching Miyazaki films

As always hit me up if you want recs, Rand.

I get enough of Japanese culture by interacting in with tourists in Hawaii. Not really a fan.

Working on planning a multi-stop, around the world extended vacation that already includes Dubai/Maldives/Thailand/Bora Bora/Kauai. Four or Five days in most spots (except Dubai, just a day or so layover). Adding in another stop w/Taiwan is probably a stretch ...
