Prospect Info: 2022 8OA, Marco Kasper

His goal total this year has been impressive given the start of the year.. Kid 100% deserves 2c full time. I actually wouldn't be surprised is he can pop in 30+ a season. He is the youngest guy on the team right now and does not look like it one bit

I really enjoy reading this thread, especially the pages from 2023 to 2024. There were so much doubt and negativity in here. Reading all those positive posts now from some users is like they're punching themselves into the head with their own hands.
Stick around, that happens a lot around here. Realistic expectations is not a strong suit on this board.

Why don’t we all chill on this “elite” talk. Athanasiou had 18 goals in his first full season as well.
whos saying he's elite.

You thought he couldnt be anything more than 3rd line grinder.

When he's proved to have legit 2C capabilities which is very encouraging.

Oh, I've been on hfboards long enough, I know how it works. It's basically "what have u done for me lately" here. Just wait until he is going to have a couple of bad games in his sophomore year, the negativity will come back as sure as the Amen in every prayer.

The expections are rising fast in here if u read the last couple of posts. 50 goals, 60 points - the sky is the limit it seems.

I will be happy if he continues his style of play and scores around 40 points next season.

You’re talking about a 20 year old that has looked excellent defensively vs a guy that never bothered to learn his goalie’s name. A top ten pick vs a 4th round pick. And what about their age difference when they broke in?

Kasper definitely has a higher defensive IQ than a young Larkin did. I had hopes for Larkin to become a true Selke type defensive player but he never really had the IQ. He plays defense in the same way that Helm did. Great at faceoffs and a motor that won't quit, but not really an elite shut down guy. I'm hoping Kasper can be more in that Draper/ Zetterberg mold defensively. Where he can go out there and truly negate top offensive players.

Offensively I'd give the edge to a young Larkin. Larkin's shot and speed opened up a lot of direct offense to him as a rookie. He had to learn how to slow down the game some and use his teammates as he gained experience. It was not uncommon for rookie Larkin to fly into the zone, loop a few teams, and eventually lose the puck. Kasper I don't think is as much as an offensive driver as Larkin a that age, but he is a much better linemate. He's fantastic around the boards and knows the quiet spots to go to be in a scoring position. He supports other skilled players well, and does all the little things that helps a line to be really effective.

Larkin's low Hockey IQ holds him back in all parts of the game. It's why when he loses a step, he'll be one of those players whose game falls off a cliff.

Kasper, like Raymond, "happens" to be around the puck defensively and offensively because he thinks the game at a higher level.

He was elite. He was just the most one dimensional forward probably ever. His offense was elite though.
eh, maybe not ever (and one of my favorite players as a kid)
