Also I gotta add a personal gripe, usually animation studios use fellow brits for their accent, but to use Ella Purnell and have her do an American accent is weird. When you're acting in live action, sure that makes sense, but voice acting? I thought that was odd. That's like hiring Michael Caine to do a voice acting role and he's doing a Southern Kentucky bloke. At that point you're just fame whoring for the name.

Ella Purnell wasn't really a name when they made this show though was she? I never heard of her until Fallout aside from reading the IMDB for Arcane. And she does a fantastic job so it certainly doesn't feel like anything but picking someone to do a great job. Hell if anything Hailee Steinfeld would be the fame whoring pick, but again, she does a hell of a job so I don't see any issue with it.
I mean Jinx is sort of having that arc as well, closer to Pinkman I think...

She does bad but then she also helps others around her, so it's not like she's entirely bad either. I think when Isha tries to save Jinx, even Vi can see that and tries to get Caitlyn to stop, so the parts of her that she still sees as Powder are still there, it's why Vi can't let go, for all the times Jinx does evil shit, she also shows her "Powder" side and Vi can't help but think she's still someone she can save as she already feels like she pushed her into becoming Jinx by leaving her that night before she got arrested.

Caitlyn to me is the one that has a vision and is sticking to it, she wants to kill Jinx and make her pay and she's hell bent on doing it, meanwhile Jinx and Vi are always flipping back and forth with what needs to be done and allowing past history to dictate how the react to things. I mean the way Jinx interacts with Isha, again, she's not as bad as they make her out to be, she just plays in the gray area a ton and then does evil shit here and there. Like her making the arm for Sevika. Jinx is more just a sad figure with a Daddy complex and misses her sister but has some severe mental health issues with her personality disorder or whatever they're alluding to, because parts of Jinx are still Powder and it's the inner turmoil she has each time she sees Vi and then gets jealous because she thinks Caitlyn has taken her spot, when really Vi has the hots for Caitlyn and it's not even like that. In any case, I don't think Jinx is the full on baddie, I think if anything Caitlyn maybe has that side to her more because her morality (moral compass, etc) is more cut and dry vs Vi and Jinx's.

I think a great turn for making you think they're half bad to full bad is The Penguin, that turn by Oz is just absolutely ruthless, it's the kind of villain you always hoped a tv show or movie would finally f***ing do, that isn't in some gore genre that is.
She is doing much worse than Pinkman ever did though. Like she's a full on terrorist who has killed a LOT of people. Just because she's not indiscriminately evil to everybody she meets doesn't make her not a villain.

I agree she's not purely evil. She was clearly not an evil kid and has been corrupted by trauma, psychosis, Silco grooming her to be a terrorist, and magic crazy drug saving her life. But even on the bridge with Ekko, after she killed like 20 people, Ekko saw his friend in there for a second and hesitated and her immediate reaction was to blow them both up.

I fully agree on your take of Vi's view of her. And Caitlin, especially now after Jinx killed her mom.

But at this point regardless of the reasons (and there are many and they are real) Jinx has done too much bad shit to be less than a villain I think. She's not coming out fixed at this point imo. She's a tragic villain, but still a villain imo. Much more so than Pinkman. She's like if Pinkman killed Gale and decided he liked it and just kept doing that shit.

I am loving her friendship with Sevika and Isha though. I loved them actually having a fun scene that didn't end in tragedy with the new arm bit.

And I love the Penguin. He is just a well done pure villain for sure. Just him feeling less-than his whole life and making villain choices to get ahead.

She was building up a decent amount yeah, she had already done Sweetbitter, Churchill, Miss Peregrine's, Maleficent, Kick Ass 2, Ordeal by Innocence, Belgravia, and that Snyder Army of the Dead movie on Netflix. She had Arcane come out a week before she was in Yellowjackets I think or maybe the same time? She was a known actress and if anything, Yellowjackets pushed her into the spotlight more in America before she got Fallout. She's also good in Sweetpea.

Ella was like a better Imogen Poots, essentially. The range Poots lacked, Purnell had.

We are 3 episodes in for Season 2, the next 3 come out in 2 days and then the final 3. So in 6 episodes, a lot can change with Jinx. I think they're positioning her to kind of be redeemed in some way. And yeah I do like the dynamics of Isha, Sevika and Jinx, kind of has a weird mentor/mentee thing possibly with Isha and Jinx and the family dynamic of Sisterhood with Jinx and Sevika.

I don't think your highlight credit being the lead in a short series nobody has heard of and being like 4-8th billed in some mediocre projects puts you in name whoring range though. I am confident that even today she's not a particularly widely known name in terms of hollywood, and still much less known than Steinfeld. Either way, she does a great job. If Michael Caine played a southern kentucky bloke as well as she plays Jinx I wouldn't be at all upset. PS: That reminds me that Daniel Craig plays a great southern kentucky style bloke in both logan lucky and knives out, though that's live action

And I have no clue who Imogen Poots is. I looked her up and I still don't know who that is.

Yeah I'm curious where it goes. I don't see any way she can go back to just being a normal person though. I think she either dies or is just still murdering as the next Silco in the end. But I'll say I certainly didn't see things going how they did to end ep 3 especially with Cait, so who the hell knows. I'm also curious if they pick right up or if there's some time jump between chapters like between ep 3 and 4 of S1.

Ah yes Americans and their lack of knowledge of shows and actors especially outside of the US, where a show on BBC is met with "Yah mean that porno channel?"

Philistines...

to be clear I am absolutely a philistine when it comes to most foreign stuff. There's too much easily accessible American stuff for me to dig too far into it. But also I think it kinda proves my point about how well known she is/was as a name because I promise I still know more about British TV/Movies than the vast majority of Americans. Which again, isn't all that much.

She just really wasn't in a big role in anything widely seen before 2021 though, whether its because we're philistines really isn't important . Her biggest was 5 years earlier in Miss Peregrine where she's like 7th billed.

Your words, they cut deep you cargo pant wearing wanker. It's called an ensemble cast, you know like the US version of the UK hit, The Office, the shows in the UK are always more of an ensemble type situation, you may see a big name but the supporting cast's arc's are just as important if not more interesting. These are not random shows, jesus mate, do you ever venture out and see the amazing shows you're missing out? I think if Netflix doesn't add them, blokes wouldn't even know what the f*** Luther was.

The Responder is fantastic, I will admit, I cried at the end of Season 2 only because Bernard Hill plays Martin Freeman's dad and it was his final role, he passed before the season aired (he's only in season 2)...he will forever be Theoden and for the Titanic fans, the Captain of the Ship. But seriously you're missing out on some amazing shows.

I could list off a bunch more than the ones below that you should check out, the one thing the US doesn't do is know when to end shit. Shows in the UK or Europe will do 2 series or 3 and call it and will do some very long episodes for 6 episode series which is just enough. The last few I have enjoyed and am a big fan of...

  • Brassic - hijinks of criminals doing dumb things but are a family of mates that look out for each other, even if they keep doing stupid stuff. I'm a fan of Joe Gilgun from Skins and Preacher. Also Jim is a riot when he gets going on his rants as the crazy old man.
  • The Responder - Martin Freeman is absolutely fantastic as a first responder, his life is a mess, the blokes around him are a bigger mess that keep dragging him.
  • DI Ray - Parminder Nagra of Bend it like Beckham fame, she plays a Detective Inspector, it's quite good.
  • Obituary - Siohbhan Cullen is amazing in this, she's well, she writes obituaries but the town is boring, so why not kill and write your own obituaries about them so you can pay your bills.
  • Bad Sisters - It's on Appletv, the first season is great, having trouble getting into the 2nd season
  • Slow Horses - Another on Appletv, if you aren't watching this, what's wrong with you? If you liked The Wire, etc, add in spies and Gary Oldman farting and drinking his way through espionage and it's a blast.
  • Kin - This is one of the best shows out, Irish mob family, Charlie Cox is amazing in this as he normally is from his Boardwalk Empire and his grunts as Daredevil. Aiden Gillen, Ciaran Hinds...its got an amazing cast.
  • Gangs of London - Big fan of the Cole siblings, especially Joe Cole. He's fantastic in it. Not sure when series 3 comes out, but you have 2 to binge through on Prime.
  • Nightsleeper is a miniseries with Joe Cole, it's fun, short so you really don't need to worry about more, it's 6 episodes of a mystery on a train with a lot of moving parts to the story.
I try to watch these, but my wife can't understand the accents without subtitles, which always makes me wonder how often she nods her head at me when she can't understand me but doesn't want to ask.

I will say hearing you and @Randy Butternubs talk up Arcane, I am glad I did watch it (definitely invested), I was worried I needed to know about the games and I tried to get to know who the characters were and a bloke told me it's its own thing with some of the characters from the game, but very few and I didn't need to play the game but the fans of the game will enjoy it for the nostalgia.

Wife just left for a work trip so I am stuck trying to find something to watch or do hobbies and I need to space out my days we'd be doing stuff together for those activities. Also trying to get Turbo to not mope in my wife's office chair like she's never coming back or something.

Hey if the Brits don't like it they should have fought ****ing harder in 1775.

@Honour Over Glory how'd you retire early again? Engineering sales? The wife and I are literally talking about retirement right now. We're living small.
I started in a different field at first, then moved into Software Enterprise Sales, then Enterprise Solutions Engineer, essentially another sales role and bridging the gap between businesses and cyber security and other tech solutions. Did it for a while, the commission and salary were fantastic but I didn't really enjoy the traveling, they did let me move to satellite offices around North America and the UK which made it easier for me to move closer to my wife in Seattle until a spot opened in Vancouver. I left it not so long ago, I did consult for a bit and was still making a decent amount from it but my initial role was just as an investor in the start up, needed my experience for a spell, then they sold for a pretty penny and I was finally done in that world. My brother actually got me into it, he was a Software Engineer and then left for San Diego, he worked in Defense contracts for a long time, his title changes so often I don't even know what it is anymore, I'd have to go on his linkedin to see.

Now just into real estate, my wife is in the yoga pants cult in Vancouver after being at their DC in Ohio for years. She's up there in the company but is kind of bored and might leave after this year or next summer (there's a lot of shit going on behind the scenes there recently that she really is leaning towards leaving), she wants to play it by ear to see how she feels after we do more rounds of IVF and if she wants to work and raise kids or just help me out with the properties and what not.

In short, I am mostly bored.

The shitty times were super shitty though, I went through a few fields, I did some Industrial Design and then dabbled in Architecture (a lot of Accessibility design and Ergonomics focused) but that was never my thing, started taking some IT courses and it just kind of spiralled into more and then programs etc. I'm retired from working for someone else, not retired because I am an old wanker like Kirk or something.

The Holland stuff I've seen...

The Crowded Room - The Apple show I mentioned, he's the most above average in this, I'd almost dare to say decent at times but it also feels like he's doing his panicked Peter bit, he doesn't separate his portrayal of characters enough from his other work, feels like just different versions of the same stuff he does.
Uncharted - Crap
Cherry - Yawn, he tried to do the tormented bloke bit and it was directed by Russo, so more like Marvel coddling.
Chaos Walking - Or a movie where Holland and Daisy Ridley show you how mid they are at acting and are lucky to be in massive franchises because their work away from it is shit.
The devil all the time - Why? The movie was so stupid. It just didn't leave any lasting impression other than "holy shit i just lost 2hrs I will never get back."
Pilgrammage - It was great because Bernthal had to shut the f*** up for the whole movie, Holland is mediocre, Armitage is fantastic like he always is.
The Lost City of Z - Wasn't even fair to him really, Hunnam, MacFayden, McDiarmid, Melling, and Pattinson are amazing actors so all Holland had to do was be average and it'd be fine and he nailed that.

His voice acting in Onward was good.

Even in the Spiderman movie with the other Parker's, the moment Garfield and Tobey show up, anything Holland did felt lower tier. His anger near the end, Tobey and Garfield still make you care more about him, I don't even think he can do what Daniel Radcliffe has done with his career after a massive franchise.

Radcliffe has done everything to show his range and some movies were ass but he was always damn good in them. Even the bat shit crazy ones like Horns, Guns Akimbo, and Swiss Army Man. He cut his teeth on some very dark shit after Potter as most do to show they're not that lad anymore, that they're a grown up. Lost City, Escape from Pretoria, Jungle, Kill Your Darlings, The Woman In Black, and then his work in The F Word, Holland isn't even 1/4 as good as Radcliffe as an actor.

It's hilarious he is in a Nolan movie, seemed more like Zendaya was like "Hey, see that dwarf over there from the same country as you, can you help him out and cast him too?"

He's 28, by 28 Daniel had already shown you he's a f***ing damn good actor and that the Potter franchise was never his best work, the best is after. I can't say the same about Holland.

I forget the name of the movie, but the movie he’s in when he’s working for the FBI and goes undercover to infiltrate White Nationalist and Aryan groups is highly underrated.

Impernium, severely underrated movie. Radcliffe has an incredible body of work outside of the Potter movies, such an underrated actor.

Yep that’s it. Watching that movie you forget that he ever played Harry Potter. Plus towards the end I appreciated seeing an actor I’ve only ever seen in The Expanse. A show that sucked me in big time.

I love Luther, great show.

I do understand ensembles lol but they are less effective at launching someone to name recognition than a starring role. Not disparaging anyone's work.

Slow horses is the only one of those shows I've heard of and it's on my short list of next show to watch. I just got apple tv again so now's the time when I get home from visiting family.

I love the visual of your wife nodding along to your accent .

I know it has been trending this way for years, but I cannot believe how much of a joke boxing has become. This Paul vs Tyson fight was a disgrace to the sport.

Boxing has already fallen well behind the UFC but this kind of crap is just going to cement it even further. A senior citizen that looks like he's not trying is fighting a youtuber, and this is supposed to be a big event in the boxing world.

The Taylor/Serrano fight was good.

Ramos/Barrios was decent

Main event was what anyone with a brain should’ve expected. An overglorified spar.

I had predicted a draw. I knew it would realistically go all 8 though.

Oh and Jake Paul still sucks. Both of the Paul brothers can f*** off and die in a fish grease fire.

Wankers.

I wouldn't consider that boxing, at least not indicative of what professional boxing is currently like.

Actually, there's still tons of great boxers out there like Usyk, Crawford, Inoue, etc... and the Saudis (and their ability to throw huge amounts of money at boxers) are putting together some very interesting boxing matches after many years of top talent ducking each other. Just this year we saw fights for both the heavyweight and light heavyweight undisputed after what, 20 years without one for each division?

I disregard anything to do with either Paul brother. I'm too old to care about youtubers, I don't even care enough to want to see them lose. Obviously somebody watches it but not for the quality of the fights, that's for sure. Either they just tune in to hope they get knocked out, or they're legitimate fans of them which I don't see how anybody could be but hey, to each their own. I'm truly puzzled by how twitch streamers have fans. I guess this old dinosaur's time has passed him by.
