my friend said the same thing. Bought a gaming laptop and it still got the job done for about 4-5 years... will last even longer, but if you aaa game... it will be rough...
even then, according to CanYouRunIt I can run 98 of the top 100 games out right now.

BTW I thought Canada had the worst drivers.

I've visited Florida and now know this to not be true. I guess the main qualifications to get your license in Florida is "Hey are you an ignorant asshole that doesn't understand traffic bylaws or common courtesy? Well great you can now drive here!"

I had some ignorant wanker high beam me for 2miles because I passed him from the right lane because he was going 35 in a 45 zone and I kind of wanted to drive the limit at least.

Oh just got that Mario game, Mario Bros Wonder.

Legit having fun playing a video game after a long time.

The 7000X3D chips are the best for gaming. Better numbers and waaaaay more power efficient. Intel has the “e” cores which boost benchmark scores but are pretty useless in actual use.
Hey... I know windows 7 can't run ray tracing and etc etc... and I'm not to say that much concerned with RT.... I am concerned with bloat on windows. Win 7 had minimal bloat / lag... Win 10 is bloaty and always online.... reporting information kind of always OL. So I am thinking win 7... realize i'll most likely use win 10.... refuse win 11.... BUT
This is the meat and potatoes of the post... can Linux do all current game stuff (because it'd have the least bloat of anything (and least amount of data spying (hopefully!!))) Not sure why I'm asking here.... figure you / or it'd be someone here who knows. Like can Linux support Ray Tracing (even though I don't really care) but just for info and knowledge... how limited with linux is oneself.... even knowing most games don't always get linux releases ='/

Im using windows 10 and haven’t had any issues. Didn’t add anything else to it besides the basic load out. There were some performance issues with windows 11 and AMD CPUs. Those have been resolved. But I haven’t bothered to go to 11 because 10 works just fine for me. No idea about Linux

I wonder what the support is for windows 7.
DX12 is only on windows 10 and up though.... to my knowledge. Which means no ray tracing, DLSS, etc etc, whatever else, etc ... so I suppose you can still use 7... I figure quite a few people still do...
I will have to use windows 7 for the fresh install, because I upgraded to 10 on the free upgrade... so we'll see and go from there.

Reeeeeeeeeeallly thinking about buying the brains of the computer on or before black friday....
I really do not want to do that, but depending on deals and sales... if it will save me big. BIG... As in 2-300 dollars... I may have to spring early. If it is only a meager sale... nah... it will not be enough to move me.

Nothing stopping you from using Windows 7. Eventually needing DX12 is going to force you to upgrade though.

Id get as much as possible on Black Friday. The money youll save on sales will be the same or better thab waiting 6months to buy things. Also, Samsung is rumored to be cutting back heavily on memory production. So hard drive and ram costs might be going up.

Hey Zirak....
If I go with the 7800x3d does it require liquid cooling?
Even on my 4770k haswell from decades past I have a gigantic phanteks heatsink which I'd decided on after when I then tinkered with oc and squeezing every inch of this machine.... then stopped because I said, for what? a frame or two and is that worth years of longevity (possibly).... so I don't care about OC anything... so the X models are fine...
7800x3d says DDR5 5200 ------- so I need that timing.... (i'm looking and getting nervous now because if I see a big deal I may be forced into consuming! I DISLIKE FORCING TO BUY!!! =P

Personally Id liquid cool it with an AIO. Getting a high end air cooler is fine though. Definitely get 6000 speed ram, with low timings, stock DDR5 ram speed is 5200, so thats the "rated" speed for DDR5. You want 6000 for the infinity fabric. AMD has similar to Intels XMP for ram overclock. Its pretty much a 1 botton click in the bios.

But yeah, if what you want is on sale Id just get it now or on boxing day. No sense waiting unless you are saving up for things in my opinion.

Half tempted to go the AM4 route, but it is on its way out and to be honest, not _that_ much cheaper... maybe on the ram side or otherwise (m/b etc)
I may just go AM5 (7800x3d) and all and spend the few bits more. I have no idea. Damned if I do, kind of deal.
I will read the entire 7 page write-up on the 7800 on toms hardware and see whats the what.

*I saw they did say 6200 ram for high end, but I'm confused I thought 5200 was better, lower is better, or was that with the timing. I have to re-read and get acquainted with all these things I forgot about them since building this (and even more so when settling down on just keeping everything where it is for so long).

Thanks for you time though and help.
Still nervous about water cooling, but I suppose maybe.

Speed will be 5200, 6200, 6500 ect. Timing with be 32-35-39, its a 3 number set. You want higher speed and lower timings. Ram timing is the response latency within the ram, so lower is better.

Mario Rpg is the first game I’ve preordered in years.
Takes me back to (the 90's early 2000's) when pre-ordering 90% of the time wasn't quite as important as they made it seem (eb / gs), but they made it seem a necessity ... the bastards! And if you purchased something without a preorder they would make hassle / pressure you into making sure you do it next time... PAH!
The only game you'd really ever not get was GTA or a major major major popular game.
Now adays with digital I wonder what could possibly be a reason to preorder. Unless it is physical and you get extra stuff? Do you get anything?

----------------------

Man this shar temple is gigantic.... doing shar trials and puzzles.... finally finished and going to the night song.... shadowheart got some cool gear, now she's got the most armor out of everyone, 22 after buff boost.

@Zirakzigil
rough estimate and pickings for a mid to high pc (i guess mid... gpu is middy)

400$ AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D - Ryzen 7 7000 Series 8-Core 4.2 GHz Socket AM5 120W AMD Radeon Graphics Desktop Processor - 100-100000910WOF
110$ G.SKILL Flare X5 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000 (PC5 48000) Desktop Memory Model F5-6000J3038F16GX2-FX5
220$ MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI AM5 AMD B650 SATA 6Gb/s DDR5 Ryzen 7000 ATX Motherboard
70$ WD_BLACK SN850X NVMe M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 4.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) WDS100T2X0E
150$ CORSAIR CW-9060060-WW iCUE H150i RGB ELITE Liquid CPU Cooler
100$ CORSAIR RM750e or 125$ RM850e
400$ 4060Ti --or-- 800$ 4070Ti

roughly 1100 without gpu and case... and hdd

Now I'll price up intel cpu middy... and (rough) build.
Then I'll price up new but cheaper mid builds that would still be a big step from where I am.

back when preordering was just getting it early too, not with features locked behind a preorder bonus  This one doesn't have any of that at least.

Yeah that Shar temple is huge. She came out of that place with like 80% of what she ended the game wearing I think. That's basically like "Shadowheart: The Dungeon" I'm really curious to go through it without her in my party.

I’d get the 850 watt supply. GPU is ehh. nVidia this generation is overpriced garbage

It is. But I had the worst experience ever with my r9 290x not to mention I bought two of the things to run in x-fire (cross fire) and it was hot.... it was loud -- jet engine loud, not even kidding, and my goodness the whine... the coil whine would drive me batty.
Even after all that, one melted and I couldn't deal with the coil whine. Went 780ti and it was like heaven. After that 2660Super... meh... but it works...
YES... I am loathing 700-800 for a 70 version... ripoff.
BUT... I'm so nervous about amd gpu's.

So... does it matter much about amd cpu and nvidia gpu? Or does AMD cpu jive with AMD gpu?
What would the equivalent amd gpu to a 4070ti?

You can use SAM with full AMD system. Otherwise no. And I’m the opposite. Only had good experiences with ATI/AMD

I see that.... sam.
So what would the 7900 xt be more on par with for nvidia? (4070 ? 4080? 4090? Ti or not?)
7800 xt is a nice price... 500$ is cheap for gpu.

Is the rest of that build good?

7800xt is between the 4060ti and 4070. I’d go with sapphire if you buy AMD XFX and power colour are not bad brands either. Sapphire is what evga was to Nvidia.

Also the 7800xt is a better buy with 16gigs of ram compared to 12 on the Nvidia.

Direct comparison is the 4070 and it beats it in most games I believe.
Had this in mind:
7900 xtx

I just checked, I still have the 'fueled by sapphire' amd metal 'chip sticker' on my case

I went sapphire the first time around... wasn't going to get that again this time... and that is the one you mention
Sapphire did look nice too... I think that is more $$$
(first pc I built I splurged as I said)
