@LokiDog safe travels and good luck in TX!
Thank you sir. Hopefully everything is smooth from here out. After trouble with finding an apartment we ended up right where we wanted to be in a great neighborhood in a really nice community. Almost a blessing in disguise. We knew we wanted to target this neighborhood but initially didn’t find what we wanted in terms of space/budget/bang for your buck (ie. we’ll pay a bit more for in unit laundry and a gym on the premises). We got denied from some places we felt we were settling at and then found a place we loved and got accepted with ease. So hopefully that was all part of the big man’s plan.
We did put the cat down, which was sad, and finances are tight, especially these next few weeks before the paychecks start. But the job is very solid and a big increase over what I made in NY. In fact, I won’t go into the specific numbers, but when you factor the lack of state income tax in Texas, it ends up coming out to nearly a $13-14k raise. Before bonus and commission. Add in that TX is generally a bit cheaper to live in terms of gas, groceries, our rent is exactly the same as it was in NY, etc. and it could be a really huge move for us, so all optimism.
And I’ll still be in our GDTs posting random film gifs and complaining about Bread and Laf. It’s my role.
My wife’s custom hat business is probably poised to take off in TX as well. She already has her first festival booked for the second weekend we’re there and she’s been doing tremendous in NY/NJ which isn’t exactly cowboy hat territory, except for hipsters. If any of you are in bands and like the rock n’roll style or have a fashionable and bohemian significant other, check out her brand. It’s called Flame and Feather Hat Co. and right now it’s on IG and Etsy but the website is launching soon. She sells what she has in stock but also makes completely custom orders and she’s done hats for a few musicians and micro celebrities/influencers. The hats are really affordable now, but as the brand continues to gain steam she’s probably going to slowly bring the prices up. She’s sold a good 60+ hats so far already.
Get in early lol

I'm currently interviewing for a Sr. Leadership role and one of the benefits of the company I am interviewing with is that I can work from any of their offices... which means I can finally move to the panhandle.Lot of people moving to like Florida also. I was there visiting family and it's amazing how much they keep building. Always new developments going up. Cost of living is cheaper, much lower property taxes, no state income tax.
I plan to spend at least 3-4 weeks (Not all at once) down in Florida this winter. I need a break from NY, which is why I didn't buy a season package for the Rangers.
I live in Orlando... which is so stupid I can't even explain. Move from NY to FL & be just as far from the coast. We're looking to move north & east in the next year or so... maybe St. Augustine area.I'm currently interviewing for a Sr. Leadership role and one of the benefits of the company I am interviewing with is that I can work from any of their offices... which means I can finally move to the panhandle.
I love Atlanta, but being landlocked rough. I need the water and the lakes here aren't enough. I miss being able to wake up on a Saturday morning, grabbing my fishing pole and just spending 3-4 hours on a pier or on the rocks like I used to do on the LI Sound growing up.

It's quite nice & you get the FL version of 4 seasons as opposed to summer / not summer like here in the swamp.St. Augustine is the nicest part of FL in my opinion. I’ve been to most of the military bases in Pensicola and Destin, been to Orlando, Miami, Del Ray Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Jacksonville and the only place I liked enough to live was St. Augustine.
plus great bbqAbout to stop for the last time before final 4 hours to Dallas tomorrow. Gas is $2.79, the speed limit is 75 and there’s no state income tax. Feels good, man.
plus great bbq
I love Central TX BBQ so much, Fun fact: there is a recipe from 18th century Austria which called for brisket to be cured then smoked, wonder if that is the ancestor of Texas brisketThat part was a given. I might go straight to Terry Black’s before I even go get the keys to the apartment lol
All those places are great. I've never actually been to District 96, but I've had plenty of their beer. Not sure if anyone here is familiar with the Rockland County area. But some nice beer places...
Gentle Giant Brewery - Pearl River, NY
District 96 Brewery/Burgerloft - New City, NY
Growler and Gill - Nanuet, NY

Growler and Gill has had beer tastings in the past. I've been to it a couple times.
Gentle Giant is a favored spot because it's close and NJ breweries are prohibited from selling food.
A couple of my friends are in that one.I recently joined the Gentle Giant mug club. Might need it for this Rangers season, lol.

They have a table at the River Vale farmer's market, plus a lot of liquor stores are carrying Seven Tribesmen now.We used to go to their brewery. Good stuff. Should be home for puck drop, we’ll see what I’m pouring.
Terry Black's was outstanding. Went there on my trip to Austin. I missed a lot of pages and playing catch up. I saw you are moving south and have a lot on your plate, I'm guessing you're moving to Austin? That part was a given.
