G Joel Blomqvist - 02' FIN
Svechkov will be a major part of Russia's offense even though he is only an 03'. He is a threat to score on the PP, PK, and should be a major part of the offense at ES too.
I believe Lucius has the potential to be the highest scoring forward for the Americans this year, despite only being an 03'. His injury made him fall under the radar a bit last year, but this guy was challenging to be a top 5 pick in the 2021 draft before his injury. I hope the U20's will show teams why, especially with him being a fixture with Berard and Beniers in practice.
I bet on Bourque originally because he was going to be on Canada's 2PP. Pleasantly surprised he is going to be in their top 6 it seems now too.
I had a tough time with the last two forward picks. I am betting on Dickinson ending up in the USA top 6 (if Cooley flops, which is a realistic possibility to any 04') or generating offense with an excellent 3rd line. Probably won't go PPG, but we saw Farinacci go a PPG on the USA 3rd line last year playing with a couple of good wingers (Brink and Berard), and he will have arguably better wingers to work with this year.
For my last pick, I was debating a number of guys, but I went with Gut because he was a returning forward, he has international success without playing on a line with Mysak and Novak (but could have even more if he does end up on the top line), and has produced similar numbers (albeit on a really good team in Everett) in the CHL as Mysak and Novak this year. Czechs are playing Germany and Austria, and I expect a bloodbath against both, so I am hoping he can go at least a PPG even if he only plays 5 games.
Owen Power is going to challenge for defenseman of the tournament. He is PP1, he is going to play a ridiculous amount of minutes with high end forwards... If he (or Niemela) is not the top scoring defenseman this year, I would be surprised.
Faber is playing with Hughes, and has underrated offensive talent himself. He put up 5 points last year and I can see him surpassing that this year. More minutes, he can be a threat on the PK, and a better offensive partner.
Puutio is likely the 2PP for Finland. Has performed well internationally and in the Liiga. Should get a ton of minutes when Niemela is not on the ice, and I think he can put up good numbers.
Blomqvist should bank a fair number of points as a starter. We'll see. I think Finland can beat Sweden or Slovakia to make the semis, so I am hoping they go up against one of them.
