If your expected goals against is 1.4 you aren't defending poorly. If the other team gets 6 goals on 1.4 expected your goalie is just really bad.That's what I mean, if you have deficiencies out there like Campbell, Nurse, and/or depth, then a more structured system where everyone is insulated together will be helpful. McDavid cherry-picking at the blueline when the puck is in the defensive zone because he can outskate 99.9% of the league for an easy breakaway goal showcases those problems.
