Thanks Francis, nice to see all three boys on one team again. Is it correct that they didn't played in the WC when their team one first time the championship?

all it took was a trio of talented forwards joining quebec city for C.J. to make the playoffs with them lol. I'm not even sure if C.J. has played double digit playoff games in a single postseason.

In this edition of retirements we fair goodbye to an Olympic Gold Medalist and personally, one of my favourite superstars, Gunnar Gibbs. That is a name, if I've ever seen one. Right from the early days at Shattuck-St. Mary's you knew that Gibbs was going to be something special. He was a high offensive producing defenseman. He was tall and lanky, but not too big so he was very mobile. I think many wondered whether his defensive abilities would translate to the next level. He went on to have a spectacular year at Notre Dame. He set records for the school and in the NCAA. It lead to him to go on to be drafted 8th overall. Chicago was so impressed they signed him right out of college. I think looking back Chicago would have let him grow and bake a little more in college or in the minors. Gibbs struggled playing lower in the line up. Gibbs definitely got better with age. His game started to round out a lot more. The penalties were always there but we started to see his offensive game that he showed in junior translate a lot more to the NHL. He became a key part of USA Hockey for 3 olympic cycles. He is a playmaking defenseman who can make a lot happen out there and will quarter back your powerplay. Unfortunately he never won a Norris or a Stanley Cup, but I think Gibbs had amazing seasons. He's made a lot of money in his career. So far the most out of all the retiree's posted. So I think he's a player that valued money and opportunity over cups. Either way he's had a hell of a career and he was inducted into the hockey hall of fame!

Hilarious to see how Gibbs became a penalty monster in his career, love to see it.

Tips, Tricks and Change List for EHM V19

Tips & Tricks to help with building your next superstar:

1. To understand more about player ratings and how they work, take the time to read this wikipage that explains more of it indepth. Attributes: Players - EHM The Blue Line Wiki

2. Avoid creating F/D prospects. I know it seems like a really cool idea, but it always ends up in the player playing defense more than the forward and that can kill your interest if you really wanted to have a foward who occasionally plays defense. If you don't mind it, go for it, however for the most part i'll advice against it.

3. A lot of you are interested in creating a player that represents a lower-tier country, but you want to spend more time in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). Here is your options
a) Drafted Through the WHL Bantam/OHL Selection Draft/QMJHL Entry Draft - Give yourself a Canadian/American birth city and make yourself a dual citizen and set Major Junior as your junior preference and I will set your declared nation as the national team you want to play for. Eg; Birthplace: Toronto, Nationalities: Canada/Argentina, Team You Want To Play For: Don Mills Flyers, Junior Preference: Major Junior
b) Drafted Through the CHL Import Draft - If you don't care, precede as normal, start in Europe or where ever and choose Major Junior as your junior preference. You will then be draft

4. Think about what kind of player you want to build and think about the attributes that would make that player successful. If you want to be a two-way centerman for example, it might help to have excellent faceoffs, passing, checking and skating. It may also help to have excellent bravery and to also choose to mould your player after someone who is a two-way center like Patrice Bergeron.

5. This has a little less to do with creating your player but more your personal enjoyment. Try and switch up your player a little bit. Choose a new name, a new city, a country! It might help you enjoy it as it's something different.

6. If you want to play in college you cannot play Major Junior. You can only play Canadian Junior A/B, US or Canadian High School/Prep, Canadian or US AA/AAA Hockey or USHL. Also give me 3 to 4 teams you're interested in playing for.

7. Staff Rep is very important!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

List of Teams you can start on in the BK NHL X Database (Will Come Back and Update This):

North American Potential Starting Places:
GOJHL, OJHL, USHL, QJHL, AJHL, BCHL

Canadian Prep School Hockey - Trinity, Stanstead, Mount Academy, Bishop's, Rothesay, Ridley, St. Andrew's, St. Michaels, Upper Canada, Newbridge, OHA Edmonton, OHA Pacific Coast, RHA Kelowna, RHA, Shawinigan, West Van, Yale, SAHA, Pairirie, St. George's School, IHA, ND Hounds Midget, BWC, Delta, Edge, Northern Alberta

US High School - Massachusetts Prep, Minnesota North H.S. Minnesota Central H.S., Minnesota South H.S. and Connecticut Prep, Michigan Hs.S, New York Prep, North Dakota H.S., Pennsylvania Prep, Wisconsin H.S., New Jersey Prep, New Hampshire Prep, California Prep, Ohio Prep, Idaho Prep, Colorado Prep, Illinois Prep, Maine Prep, Rhode Islad Prep, Vermont Prep

Prep Hockey Conference - Shattuck-St.Mary's, Northwood, Culver, NTDP U18 Team(NOT THE USHL team), South Kent, Nichols, Bishop Kearney, The Mount

Europe Potential Starting Places: To Be Updated

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

List of Changes Coming to V19:

1. Favourite Staff/Disliked Staff - You will now be able to list up to 3 players/executives/hockey people you like or dislike. They can be people already in the database or they can even be other superstars.

2. Disliked clubs - This may help if you want to avoid signing with a particular team. You may list up to 3 clubs you dislike.

3. Extra "EXCELLENT" rating for any of the following:
a) If you were drafted 1st OVERALL at ANY POINT (NHL Draft, CHL Import Draft, OHL/QMJHL/ in v18 - you may add one extra excellent for any category of your choice)
b) However moving forward, you will set a career goal and if you hit that career goal you can obtain another excellent stat for v20.

4. You're free to make your player from any country. I won't restrict anyone as sometimes people just find it more fun to be a Canadian/American/Russian/Swedish/Finnish ect.

5. Increased trade requests. I'll allow up to 3 or 4 trade requests.

6. Choice of having a completely random CA and PA or having the ones we normally use where your player is guaranteed to become a superstar. We'll name it Guaranteed Superstar vs Randomized Superstar.

Let me know if you have any other things you want me to add. Gonna be working on the new signup thread tomorrow. While grinding out a ton of retirements.

Does this mean @TradeAllStromes gets 2 bonus excellent stats? Or would one of them slide to whoever went 2nd etc

I like the idea to get awarded for the next version but it should be announced before as it has some impact how to build a player. For example European players which not choosing the Major Junior have less a chance to get first like a Canadian with that path as well it has an impact which position you choose. A goalie gets really rare a 1rst over all, right?
I like the variant B more or we vote together which 5 players have the most interesting career.

Just my cents.

I think I’ll add in different ways. So 1 way could be who we vote has the best career, another way is the 1st overall, another way is who makes the most money. And the last way is if you hit your career goal

overall i'm not sure it impacts stuff too much since most of our players are so good they'll get to around excellent in their main stats anyways but It is a neat reward to start off with and would make the player better early on.

i wouldnt mind other goals though like most PIMs or longest time to make it to the NHL being part of it as well to maybe encourage us to make more unique players.

Ponvakoi is a San Jose legend. The first overall selection in 2024 was everything the organization could have wanted or asked for. He was committed to the organization and never left or gave any indication he was going to leave. He set records, he helped them reach the playoffs many times in his career. However he was never able to get San Jose to the Stanley Cup final and I believe that would be his one regret. I know he would have wanted to win no where else. He dominated the DnXL earlier on his career. He was a pure goal scorer and was able to make plays out of nothing. He is a guy who you can count on to either be the finisher or set up man on the powerplay. It took him 3 years to figure out his bearings in the NHL. However, once he did he exploded on the scene and did not look back. His best year was 2030/31 where he bascially won every major award a forward could win and he put up a remarkable 110 points. I think San Jose can be very happy with the player they chose at #1. Ponvakoi was also a key part of Team Ukraine, helping them win numerous medals at various levels. Even helping at their Olympic appearance in 2042. Ponvakoi had a great career and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame!

Mr. International if I could phrase it so eloquently is how I view Rivas. What a job he has done to carry the nation of Argentina on his back. He brought them from the depths of Division 3 World Championships to the tops of Div 1B and battling in 1A. I really enjoyed tracking his career as he is a special one. Coming from a non-traditional hockey market to be the effective player he was is amazing. I think one thing to note is that, I was quite disappointed in his offensive output. I was expecting him to put up greater numbers. I'm not sure if that has to do more with his skill or more to do with the fact that he never played on really strong teams. He was a bit of a suitcase, but he was a leader and a guy capable of putting up good seasons. He is more of your playmaking center. I liken him to Niklas Backstrom. A guy who has elite vision and can get you 30 goals, but he is mainly going to be the set up guy. He really didn't win any NHL awards but I think this is a career he can be happy with overall. Congrats on the great career!
