Loving the feedback so far, just my thoughts. I’d love to see more variance as well. I’d love to see more players grind it through the AHL or Europe and then come over or be KHL superstars. Or maybe be a 6th round pick and make it big or go undrafted!

I think lowering the Current Ability at the start would help.

Maybe instead of putting a set Potential ability, randomizing whether you’re a -15, -12, -10, -9, -8, -7 ect!

I have to find out what the ranges for each of those are again

I think giving option of letting us choose if we want a random PA could be a good compromise since I know there are some who like it how it is where their players have max potential.

I think have varied potential though would be cool with this database since there are so many leagues around the world so there's potential for some interesting journeyman career paths. Also it would be interesting to see if any players can outperform their current ability/potential ability.

My two cents

It would actually be really cool to see superstars dominate other leagues than the NHL - similar to what Tony Hand did in British hockey.

Is it possible to build a player in such a way that they will never look to go to the NHL? Because if they can dominate the SHL/KHL, they'd be looked at by NHL teams for sure.

I would have to do some testing prior to the full sim but I think it’s doable

Agreed I think that’s a fair point. Some people do prefer it and even then I still randomize potential ability from 175 to 200. So if people want a sure fire superstar I’ll continue to give them a randomized potential in that range. Others who want it completely random I’ll do it the other way. I think it’s a fair compromise.

I personally would love to see more guys spend time in the minors. I’d love for my guy to grind it in the AHL or NCAA for longer. I like the NHLx database because it allows for so much more international play. But I hate the playoff format haha.

I also like the idea of giving the choice. If someone doeimund the idea of grinding minor leagues, then they should be able to. But some like it as is.

I liked to new teams.

Was a little annoyed when the expansion team was starting to get better that Gagne was traded to another bottom team.

Would be interesting if we could have no trade clauses. Not sure if doable. I feel if you are going to commit to a bad team, It be nice to be able to get the rewards if ever it comes.

Some players at the end of their careers do get NMC’s I should do a better job of reporting that. But I don’t mind expanding the trade requests

What did you enjoy most about this series?
it was fun trying a pretty out there player build

What did you not enjoy about this series?
nothing really it was quite fun once again.

What would you like to see added to the series for next time? (List as many suggestions as you can think of)
I'd like to see more screenshots of player attributes or maybe get some downloadable saves towards the end of everyone's careers so I could load it up in game and poke around. I'm also seconding adding random potentials in for next time too, I'd definitely use one if given the option

Did you like using the NHLx database?
yeah the NHLx db was fun I'd definitely do it again

For version 19, which do you prefer? (Everyone choses their own country or we all team up for a lower country and try and build them up)

i think that putting all the superstars on the same national team is just gonna end up with that team being dominant as soon as possible but i like the idea of limiting everyone to teams who are like div 2A or div 2B.

Should note that from what I know about the game, its hard to keep good players out of the NHL unless they are low adaptability or low ambition really, maybe if you lowered their world rep by a lot but that still isn't a guarantee, and anyone with a high PA will almost surely make their way to the NHL eventually regardless.

Its hard to have any criticisms since this is all really fun. My only one would be making it so players actually participate more in the international games, especially when its a lesser league. Like Ukraine just beat Canada, but with more than the 4 players maybe they get a gold or silver. The expansion teams imo should be limited, it takes them forever to be good, and I don't like the play-ins every year

That is the one thing I can’t really control. International participation is really up to the CPU player year by year. Even if I take control and try and put them on for a world championship, they may decline the invitation for the year. But I think with more variance we might see more players represent their country.

I will also talk to BK and see if he can come up with a custom database bc I love the international tournaments but want the original playoff format back

I like having the international a lot. If could normal playoffs it would help the players who lose in the playins actually go to the international games.
Is there a stat that links to how likely players play nationally?

The 2022-23 database of NHLX will definitely address some of the weakness of the future drafts - I’ve layered in future prospects born 2009 and later to all playable countries - and the idea is that non-traditional countries will eventually see their hockey development gradually “ramp up”. I didn’t want to build in a bunch of fake current players to beef all these nations up as that just didn’t feel natural or realistic. The level of internationals in the NHL draft and quality of international play really starts to get interesting by the late 20’s and 30’s.

@francis246 I can probably look at doing a custom version with the old NHL format for the new season file if that’s preferable.

Could you ask him for Thrashers, too? :D There are so many new teams and my beloved Atlanta is kinda forgotten :D

Promoting the Gladiators to the AHL not good enough? Haha :D

If I do a custom db for this database I could look at putting the Thrashers in for the Aeros and making Houston their AHL club. Not going to on the “official” version but that kind of quick tweak for this series would be easy enough.

That would be amazing BK! I think we would all love that, I'd like to personally say I loved using this database, the extra tournaments were great and it was so nice to track and see the real life prospects develop. Like Jeremy Bracco's little brother for example haha. It's very realistic. But yeah it's been amazing! Would it mess things up to do a custom version with the old NHL format?

Sbruev is an absolute winner. His career has come to an end but it's been one that can be looked back on very fondly. For a 7th overall pick I think Pittsburgh was able to get the perfect Letang replacement. It took a bit of time fo Sbruev to come over from the KHL and the first couple of years were an adjustment. However, in year 3, his offensive game really took flight. Most scouts would have predicted that Sbruev was going to be more of a shut down dman, but none were really expecting the offensive output he provided during his NHL career. Every time he was on the ice, you knew he was going to make something happen. He finished his career a +506 and finished with 1017 career points. Sbruev is the exact two-way defenseman you want on your team, he's a leader and was apart of the Pittsburgh leadership core for a while. His international career was awesome as well. He appeared in 158 career games for Russia and took every opportunity to represent Russia whenever he got the chance. I'm happy he was able to get at least 1 Norris as he was one of the best defenseman in the league. He is a winner having won in the NHL (4 times) and KHL (1 Time), I know the one thing he would have wanted was to win an olympic medal. Nonetheless, he had a fantastic career and we wish him all the best!

Unfortunately due to an injury Oleksandr Avechkin was forced to retire. Avechkin was a very special player that brought such a unique style of game. He had a beaming shot, was a great skater and could absolutely lay you out as well. Sometimes his physicality lead him to taking penalties that would cost the team. Avechkin was definitely more of a defensive player and someone who was a key cog on New Jersey's penalty kill. Avechkin is also a natural born leader. At just 14 years old he was the Captain of HC Donbass. He carried those traits right into the NHL being an alternate captain right away. He really had to find his offensive game the first season. I think most scouts and coaches were wondering if he was going to break out. But that second season he came out of his shell and exploded on the scene. Becoming one of the best two-way playmaking players in the NHL. I think his main downfall is that he played for an average club. The Devils weren't able to capitalize with a superstar on their team. Fortunately for Team Ukraine that meant he would be available to them. He was an absolute beast for Team Ukraine. 95 points in 83 games and has helped them move up in the rankings! He's had one hell of a career and I know the fans in New Jersey are grateful for all he's done.
