Teams use 1st round pick in hopes they develop in to "serviceable NHL middle-sixers"? No I don't think they do
Before last year he was pacing as a 20 goal scorer every year in the league. Not every 1st round pick becomes a star. Whether or not he was worthy of his 14th overall selection is besides the fact 7 years later on whether or not he's a good NHL player. It doesn't help he went in possibly the deepest draft of all time, but Debrusk fits the bill as a typical first rounder in the 20-30 range if you look at most first rounds.

A bust who is the 12th highest goal scorer from the stacked 2015 draft? For reference Timo Mier, an very good pick at 9th overall, is only 3 spots higher at #9 despite playing ~70 more games. Senyshyn is a bust, Goldobin is a bust. Debrusk is not.
Jake has seen his numbers drop every year since his rookie season. He’s fast turning into Ryan Donato.

You’d rather have Eklund and Karlsson wasting $11M in cap space for the next like 6 years than have Stutzle? Weird.

Pointless comment. There was no guarantee that the sharks would have gotten Stutzle. He was NOT a part of the initial trade. A draft pick that was expected to be late 1st was. Saying the sharks would have had Stutzle if not for the trade is the problem here as if you have that type of foresight you should be a billionaire winning the lottery consistently. There no guarantee the Sharks make the western conf finals without EK, there's no guarantee that the sharks finish with the 3rd OA if they kept Pavs instead of signing EK after the playoff run. While they would have that 1st, no guarantee they would have finished in that #3 spot. The Stutzle part of this whole thing is irrelevant as there is too much variable change. But this run of bad luck led the sharks to getting Eklund which we have to be happy for.

Back to Hertl, I hope they resign him. Anyone who watches west coast games knows what type of a player he is and how much he's worth. Ones that just watch a hand full of highlights and read stats online are the ones that are truly missing out on his ability to control play.

Yeah lets throw in Lohrei Pasta and McAvoy too.....
This is why our prospect pool is rated crap......and no to Swayman before he gets mentioned too
I wasn’t saying to trade away the best players/prospects. I was saying that waiting on Lysell to enter his prime means Bergeron and Marchand will likely have retired, so the team won’t be that good.

I’d keep Lysell. That prospect pool needs all the talent it can get.

He doesn't really have that option.
How? Doesn’t he only have like a three team list he can only be traded to or something? Put Vegas on there who can’t afford him, and put Arizona who won’t want him and boom now it’s only Boston

Because Hertl literally has no reason to want to only go to Boston and every reason not to put Arizona on his list before a season starts. The most likely option is that Hertl has three legitimate teams and a willingness to expand that for a single run.
