Bears put on their best 2024 round 3 impression. Dominated the game, up 2-0, gave up two goals in the last minute with the Springfield goalie pulled. Vecchione with the OT winner less than a minute in.
Can’t believe we let up two goals in the last minute. Great to get the win though.

On the last goal to tie it, Iorio just came cruising in slowly while the guy in front of the net collected and scored. Iorio is 6’4 210… he needs to come in and crush that guy with authority. He needs to do like Protas and impose his size or he will have a hard time making it as a Caps regular.

Make no mistake, the Bears are good. They just aren’t as dominating and consistent as last year. Iorio, Dube, Miro, Rybinski, and Trineyev (hurt) all need to step up this year. Of that group only Miro is waivers exempt next year.

Friedman mentions Hershey in the latest 32 thoughts podcast during the Caps segment. Says that a lot of AHL teams are pissed that Hershey has been so good the last few years. Said he heard a lot of players from different teams were texting each other during the playoffs last year telling each other they needed to knock Hershey out. The hate is real right now. You love to see it

Imagine paying 35 bucks in parking to witness that shit
I only paid $10 because I went with a buddy from work who preordered and we split the cost 🙃

We bought this as an add-on (we both have 12-game plans but neither of us picked this game) with that 40% off sale they had a couple weeks ago because they were the cheapest 100-level tickets for the month ($20.95 plus about $3.50 in tax). I still feel robbed.

Roe is my buddy's favorite player. This was the fourth game he's been to this season and the third time Roe was scratched, lol. We did manage to spot him sitting one section over with his kids during the second intermission, which was probably the highlight of the game. (Also, as an aside, I don't care how old that man is or if he's on an AHL deal, I want him in the lineup going forward)

This could possibly be of interest to the Caps fans on this Caps board: Nelly was asked straight up about Funk postgame. He basically said he's a young guy who brings a lot of energy and has gotten a lot of chances but just can't bury any yet. Acknowledged that he didn't get to play much because of all the penalties Hershey took, especially in the first period. Also more or less said that some guys in the lineup need to be watching their backs and that, verbatim, "Zac is the least of my worries right now"

That is funny about your buddy and Roe. He is a solid guy. Roe grew up in Reston (and his parents were still there) but played mostly overseas. When his mom passed away there were some favors to get him back to states and specifically in Hershey so he could be close to family. He had so much fun last year, he asked for another year and got it (team also very much liked him). I think he brings something to the lineup so hopefully he’ll start playing again.

interesting on Funk… thanks for sharing. Funk has certainly had a better rookie year than Hofer. Hofer still not getting into many games. Challenge is there are a lot of (veteran) bodies in Hershey. Those man strength players can be hard to beat out for an organization like Hershey who prioritizes winning.

Bears will certainly have some veterans on the team again next year, but they are going to have to open up some slots for prospects as i think there will be about five that can come in next year.

Nelly also complained that Bridgeport was taking liberties against "young players" like Miro (named specifically in the presser) and no one did anything about it, and that there were players scratched last night who might've done anything about it. So I don't know if that means we're going to see more Saulnier/Smith/Ozzy soon or if he was just venting. Not like Hershey has exactly been a goon squad recently. I also didn't really notice anything particularly egregious last night myself other than the Bears' play.

But he called out the top guys hard and called out Hershey's apparent fear of getting to the dirty areas and taking a hit. He more or less said no one's spot in the lineup is guaranteed right now. Guess we'll see.
