Riley Nash should have been the third star. He did scored twice, after all. I know Hershey is a classy organization and would never do it, but, it would have been freakin' hilarious. "YOUR THIRD STAR, SCORING TWO GOALS TONIGHT, FROM THE CHARLOTTE CHECKERS, RILEY NASH!!!"

Not picking on you @Strawberry Fields but I love this — this is the fan experience and HFBoards summarized in two posts.

Also, go Bears.

Also adding: as a Flyers fan in the NHL and with it being a while since the Bears had a legit shot at the Cup (shutout to the two Covid years), cheering for a team you actually have some degree of expectations for is almost a foreign concept, lol.

I thought all bears fans were NHL caps fans just to see their players graduate and play for us but maybe we didn’t have that relationship when you became an NHL fan. The AHL team might have been the Portland Pirates back then.

I’ll still say one of the best things Ted did was getting Hershey as our minor-league team and building Kettler (whatever it’s called now) close for all the players and moving out of Piney Orchard

They were in the last years of their Colorado affiliation when I started watching them as a kid. In fact Peter Budaj was my first favorite hockey player and I remember crying when my mom told me he wouldn't be on the Bears the next year (because of the affiliation change, which I didn't have much of a concept on as an 8 year old). I didn't even know the NHL existed at that point honestly. I do have some rooting interest in the Caps as I've seen a lot of their players come up through Hershey and Ovi is my all time favorite player.

In retrospect it would've made more sense to follow the Caps, but at the time they became affiliated with the Bears, my family only had basic cable so there was no means of getting Center Ice or anything like that to be able to follow other teams.

Worth noting that the Flyers were affiliated with the Bears from the mid 80s to the mid 90s but that was before my time.

Big news for the Bears. Sgarbs will probably become one of the longest tenured Bears in recent history at the end of this deal.

With its location and affiliation history, Hershey is a good mix of Caps, Flyers, & even Pens (🤮) fans. Personally, I grew up a Flyers fan, as where I lived then got Philly channels and therefore, Philly sports.

It really changed for me once my daughter was old enough to start going with us. You used to be able to hang out after the game near where the players came out. She met so many of the guys that made it to Washington in the past few years. It made it hard to root against them when they made it up to the NHL. I've only considered myself a Caps fan since 2014 or so.

He's going to be the longest continuous Bear I recall. That would be seven (?) seasons when the deal ends, right? CB17 has more seasons, but he had intermediate stops.

Mitchell played seven years as well from 2011-2018 (nine years if you count ATO games he played at the end of 09/10 and 10/11). I imagine there were guys that played even longer in Hershey during the O6 years but that was such a different era of hockey.

Looks like Harford is up 3 about midway in the 3rd. No idea which NHL affiliate they are.

Edit: NYR.

Pack up 4-0 very late in the 3rd. Barring a miracle comeback, they're Hershey's next opponent. On one hand it's good to avoid Providence, who they struggled mightily against all season (1-5-0 if I'm not mistaken). On the other, Hartford has been red hot since the last 10 games or so of the regular season and aren't really the same team that Hershey last faced in February.

Anyway, onward Bears. Here's hoping they continue to ride the momentum from last game despite whatever layover there might be and remain amped up.

Shepard gave a bad rebound that ended up in the back of the net and then put the puck up for grabs from behind the net but got lucky when it was somehow shot wide.

Losing 1-0 despite outplaying Hartford. Shots are 3 to 13.
