It's the evening for annoying people. They are all around me. Surprisingly decent game so far. They already reached their two win quota for the week
They better win because I have some very loud, very annoying people to my left (and they have a friend right above too!) and I really don't want this to be a wasted evening
I got to meet the HoFers during the intermission so that was cool, especially Freddie and Aucoin, both of whom I grew up watching here (yes, I'm outing myself as young). Also ran into Mitch Lamoureux twice; I've never seen him around the concourse once before tonight in almost 20 years of coming to games. It's the evening for annoying people. They are all around me. What is the ranking on the D core side for Hershey these days.
First look (I think) of Bogdan in Hershey.
Can you imagine the board if the caps were doing that?Is that on the coach? Doesn’t sound like a guy to promote if so….
I mean it’s notably hard to deliver a full 60 in hockey at top performance, and the Caps core has always had a problem getting up for games. Back to the Young Guns, we would get bailed out by our superior skill late in games quite a bit.Can you imagine the board if the caps were doing that?
I really don't have any answers, lol. My dad always asks me, "what do you think is their problem?" or "I can't put my finger on it, but they're missing something." Both of us are kind of at a loss every time. They definitely have the talent to dominate. You're absolutely correct that it's not a new issue. They do have several players who have been here for four or five years, I'm not laying the blame all at their feet but I do wonder if maybe they'd benefit from some new blood in the room and on the ice next year. Obviously rebuilding isn't really a thing in the AHL and it's not like they have a bunch of Caps prospects immediately incoming next season, so there's really no perfect solution beyond shaking up some of the vets. Even if the Caps are really starting their downward spiral and start accumulating more picks like they started to at the deadline, the Bears wouldn't reap many benefits from that for a few years at least. Even the 2022 picks (it looks like there were some solid ones) probably won't turn pro for another couple seasons besides Hofer (or at least I'm assuming). If they can dig up another Frank or two or pick up a solid prospect or two in any hypothetical further moves the Caps make this summer, that'll do for the time being, lol.I really don't know what's at the heart of the issue. It almost seems like a culture thing, as it goes back at least to Carbery's time in Hershey. The team just doesn't always show up for weeknight games, and they don't / can't put teams away. Maybe Strawberry or HB11x sees it differently or has some other ideas.
Also of note, the Facebook hockey experts want to send all the skilled guys to DC so the grit guys can play. Apparently the Bears would have won last night if Gersich was playing.
I'll add my two cents. I don't think they've gotten much help most of the new year. Hard to steal many games when your offense is only giving you one or two goals a game for long stretches. Lots of their losses have been one or two goals with minimal offensive input from their own side. Shep had that bad stinker in Providence the other week where he got pulled in the first period but every goalie has some bad ones every now and then. He's cooled off since his hot start (probably been properly scouted by now), but, like you said, he's not bad by any stretch. Fucale had two utterly abysmal games in the stretch of a week back in December but has largely gotten himself together since then imo. At least they seem to have been having better outcomes in front of him recently. I don't trust them to the extent I did Freddie Cassivi and Neuvy back in the day, but I'd believe in either goalie to lead the team to a championship if the guys in front of them could string together some more complete outings.A secondary issue, as I see it, is that neither Zack nor Hunter can steal a game. When the team stops playing, the goaltending falls off, too. No matter what others might say about the NHL level, both Pheonix and VV could steal a game at the AHL level. Not saying the current two are bad by any stretch, but they aren't stealing games, either.
He was called up to Hershey at the beginning of the week after Fucale was called up to the Caps. Since Fucale was sent back down a couple days later, so was Stevenson; he wasn't up long enough to even dress and back up. I have to imagine at least one of Fucale or Shepard leave in the summer (both are UFAs) so you'd think he *should* get a shot to stick in Hershey full time next year. He was very good in his three games in December and has done well in SC by the looks of it.What is Clay S.'s situation at this point. I recall he as injured but not much sense.
