Carter has been an absolute bum this season.
That is something that’s a little concerning. Hoping he snaps out of this rut. Only 8 goals, that’s on pace for 21. He specifically is relied on for his goal scoring (and even strength scoring), it’s not like he brings much outside of that.

People are gonna get mad and say we're dumping on the guy, but it's time to be honest: do you think this guy's glove hand is going to miraculously improve in time for him to take over for Bobrovsky? I don't. Which means he needs to be moved, because Driedger could have absolutely given us 13 goals against in his last 3 games, too.

Knight is a 750k buyout. I saw that Fucale is eyeing an NHL comeback next year. Insane numbers in Russia, feels like the type of scrapheap pickup who'd excel here at league minimum.

If we are gonna get shit backup goaltending, the least they can do is save money

Let's face it. Knight has been one of Zito's mistakes

3.5 plus 2.4 million is sub 6. Add like 400K and that would have been enough and I would have taken him at that price.

or here's another look

That's OEL + Stenlund kept
You move Bob and you probably keep OEL and Montour

Bob has been better this season but he hasn’t been much better either

They can move Knight, nothing is stopping Zito

I’d be extremely surprised anyone takes knight at his salary unless we’re retaining or taking a bad contract back. But they can absolutely buy him out. Would save us 3.75mil next season in exchange for one additional year at 0.75mil

No one was going to take Knight last off-season coming off missing half a year and then playing the next year in the AHL when he's making at 4.5 million. I was 100% on board with Zito giving him a fair shot this year and it's still kinda early but he's played fairly frequently and has been pretty mediocre. I don't see Zito moving Bob over buying Knight out.

We obviously miss Montour, but the team couldn't afford to keep everyone. Keeping Reinhart over Montour was the correct choice in foresight and IMO is the correct choice in hindsight. Unfortunately, the team was just a victim of its own success in that regard.

I do think there is basically no chance for this group to repeat unless one more solid addition can be made at the blue line... keep in mind, injuries are gonna happen. This group is gonna be absolutely toast if Ekblad, Forsling, Mikkola or even Kulikov or Schmidt get injured.

If Provorov is realistic, that's who I'd want them to target.

Not long at all actually, December 12, 2023 @Seattle and December 14, 2023 @Vancouver. Panthers went 1-3 on that 4 game road trip. It's generally not a successful trip.

seattle was a very similar game. we were almost ground down in that one, too so that's 3 in a row like this. i think we've started to cheat a little and that's where the odd-man rushes are coming in the last two games. also not getting finishing in key moments. ek had that great chances and hit the post (he's missed the net a bunch this year...). benny's gotta bury that breakaway.

i don't think it's an effort thing. we're winning battles and recovering pucks. shot selection and puck management has to be solid in games like these and we gotta find a little bit better quality by getting to the middle. it's just been way too hard to get quality chances.

knighter didn't look great/confident either but it's hard to blame him when the team isn't right in front of him.
