Whether they are 38 years old or 18, they are elite athletes, still showing up to practice every day, doing everything they can while they're still here. This is their life; their existence and their purpose. They want to win more than anything.
Enough to demand they fire a coach whose system is no longer relevant?

I just want him gone because I'm tired of his smug face.

I also don't want him to stick around for the rebuild so he can ruin any young prospect with even an ounce of offensive ability.

Yeah a big thing with our rebuild up to 09 was that we needed to re-instill the culture of winning and team-building. That took as much time as the roster stuff.

That's completely gone at this point and Sully is the number one culprit. When we're not winning, we need a coach can build on something every year and teach young players how to win, not one that is full of bullshit platitudes and plays favourites with players that are like he was.

I think a big thing with our rebuild up to 09 was getting a generational top 10 NHLer of all time, a top 30 NHLer of all time, and a defenseman who is going to finish likely top 20 all time in scoring.

That's the issue with Penguins fans is that they think they are just going to fall off and get these pieces again.

Look at the teams they have picked 1st overall. You have Colorado and Edmonton since our draft that got that level of player. That's it. Maybe you argue Kane / Hedman in those arguments, but lots of those cores were built by shrewd drafting and intelligent moves.

Dubas has no experience with either of those concepts.

This is kind of why I chuckle at the "we need to rebuild NOW so we can be a dynasty again 5 years sooner than if we wait for Sid/Geno to retire" sentiment. Rebuilding isn't a guarantee of success unless you have a competent organization leading that rebuild. Relying on landing another Sid AND Geno AND Letang if only we'd just start rebuilding NOW is a fool's errand.

The first step in showing this organization understands where its going wrong would be firing Sullivan. At the very least, it would show they understand he's not the man for the job -- either now or when the rebuild happens. Until that happens, it really doesn't matter whether we "go for it", "retool on the fly" or "sell everything and totally rebuild". As long as Sullivan is seen as the God-Emperor of coaching, nothing changes.

Well Kypreos thinks Boston might be waiting to see what happens with Sullivan after the regular season's over before looking for a coach.

Which means Boston has zero interest in Sullivan.

Yeah, just so we can see how Sullivan plans to never use them.
I don’t want him here next year. But if the point is to get a lottery pick this June, it seems as though holding onto him for the season makes the most sense. A new coach is going to re-invigorate the team and will probably get them an extra 10 points. Ride this f***ing loser all way into the ground. We’ve put up with this for this long already, another 3/4ths of a season isn’t going to kill us.

Oh don’t worry guys we will be hiring Torts when the Flyers fire him
Actually, some on the Flyers board seems to want to hire Sullivan when we fire him since they believe that Torts will be promoted to the front office. Is there still the ability to trade a coach for a player? Supposedly Forst is on bad terms in Philly.

Pretty sure torts and Sullivan had a falling out

Don't think they'll work together

In a very brief search it looks like Torts said that they had to split because Sullivan was being cast purely as an assistant coach and not a head coach. Not sure how much to believe there, but that is what I found.

Sullivan's a dipshit but he's also enough of a dipshit to win just enough to place out of a top 10 pick because that's just our luck with that twat and this ownership.

One thing about Sullivan is very, very clear: He won’t resign or retire from the Penguins anytime soon. If Penguins’ ownership no longer wishes for Sullivan to be their head coach, so be it. But he’ll go down with the ship simply because he believes the ship will rise again, and he wishes to keep his job all the way through. Sullivan has two seasons on his contract following this one.
