There are a grand total of 5 defenseman his age or younger who have played more games in the NHL. Very few 20 y/o defenseman who are regulars in the NHL. I'm guessing he is looking forward to his opportunity just like every other prospect. If you are a prospect who feels entitled to an NHL roster spot it is more likely than not you will have a very short career.

I understand that players, and in general people, need to earn jobs. I get it, but you can’t tell me that we are better off with him in the press box while Nathan Beaulieu is getting ice time? Christ, we played him as a 4th line as a wing while Perfetti ate popcorn. This isn’t new and is a trend with this org. If your asking me what has Heinola done to deserve a spot on the roster, I’ll ask you what has Beaulieu done to earn his?

I don't think very long. The org doesn't think much of him if he they determined the likes of sbisa, beaulieu, bitetto, Forbort are superior nhl players and have more potential than him. Then they had Benn and Stanley higher than him last year (remember the supposed open competition for the third pair).
Now you add 2 vets with big contracts (Dillon and Schmidt) who are superior than the first list of players. This is the second year he's sat for a long time and not playing anywhere.

I did hear rumblings from a good source that someone in the org did ask for a trade a a year or two ago. They ultimately were not traded and got ice time. I’ve seen the Laine/Roslo/Petan etc crap play out and I don’t want that with Ville. If the org doesn’t want to play him, fine, trade him to the highest bidder for a RW or RHD or he’ll, even a 1st. Just don’t let him rot.

I don't like BooBoo on the roster either. That doesn't mean I don't think Heinola would be best served playing a full year or 2 as the Moose top defenseman getting big all situation minutes. I always lean for development over rushing into the lineup as that is the most likely way to F*** up a good prospect IMO. Not a big fan of the Taxi Squad during Covid as it screws with proper development.

I know you’re not arguing that Ville is this sort of prospect, but from everything I’ve seen from him on the Moose and read / heard about him he is not at all this way. Smart, talented and hardworking kid who wants a shot but by no means a complainer or prima donna.

The kid needs more of an opportunity. Very difficult situation having not played in almost a month and then getting stuck with Beau.
I agree, but a lot of stuff that Ville did wrong last night was self inflicted.

I do agree we have to see if he can play his way out of it, as at the very least we have to boost his market value.

I have seen a couple of Anaheim games to catch Drysdale in action. He does a lot well offensively but shows a lot of the same issues in his defensive game as Ville did yesterday.

He often fails to pick up his check, can get caught flat footed or out of position.

I think we probably need to get him into a string of games and let him learn from his mistakes ala Jaime. I'm sure if allowed he'll showcase what he's good at.

yup. he played a good game against stl. although heinola-pionk isn't my ideal pairing, they played well imo. hopefully he builds on that confidence tonight against philly.
Ville just needs a few games to get his confidence going. Florida wasn't exactly the way you want to ease into things.

For me personally I finally got the game I needed to see from Heinola vs the Blues. There will be ups and downs but Ville looked really good in that game. I get what the more frequent viewers of the Moose have been saying about him now. I would like to see more of that pair please.

In a 1-1 game with 4 minutes left he jumped into the offence at a poor time and the resulting 2-1 the other way resulted in Phillys game winning goal!

So? He's played 17 games in the NHL. He will makes mistakes. This is good, in fact, because mistakes are necessary for learning.
