I'm convinced Renney does not have the ability to become angry. While that is an impressive and admirable human quality, I want to see a coach lace into an official or player every now and then when it's deserved. I think the only time I can remember him getting visibly pissed off was in a game against Chicago where the refs were just pitiful. Won that game too even with all the lopsided calls.

When he started chewing his gum like there was no tomorrow, you knew he was furious

I'm expecting AV to be named the coach. I've expected it all along. And I'm okay with that, although I think Eakins is a better fit and that the Rangers are missing out big time on him (if they indeed hire AV).

Those two are my top 2 choices as well, and like you i'd prefer Eakins but im ok with AV.

Yeah. That Flyers game where Richards scored shorthanded 3 on 5 was one of the most embarrassing games I've ever seen as a Ranger fan. I think it was 5-1 halfway through the 2nd at home and I honestly thought it could have gotten much uglier because the Flyers were skating circles around the Rangers and the Rangers didn't give a ****.

EDIT - Here's the highlights of that game. It was actually 5-0 before the Rangers got on the board. Watching the effort of some of these guys on the goals is still embarrassing.

I was at that game...it was pretty bad. The team did not come to play at all. Very embarrassing.

I feel like that's a popular opinion here. Some people can't picture a coach influencing the refs or motivating players unless they are yelling and screaming.

At which point the 2009 Stanley Cup winner would immediately vault to the top of the list of candidates for the vacant spot behind the Blueshirts’ bench…if, that is, Shero were to grant Rangers’ general manager Glen Sather permission to speak to Bylsma, who is under contract to the Penguins through the end of next season.
Please. Get the **** outta here Brooksie.

Not sure how I feel about that.

I like a lot of what Byslma can bring, but I'm concerned that he seems to have trouble keeping his team disciplined and focused.

Don't worry, Brooks gave no reason as to why he would become to top choice. In fact he mentioned more obstacles to him being hired (will he even be fired? Will Shero give Sather permission to talk to him?)

It's a personal preference with me. I just like to see a coach get pissed once in a while. I did like Renney, but he seemed too much of a pushover.

What do you guys actually know about Eakins? I know nothing about the dude. I think I'd be OK with Vigneault.

id be ok with AV or Eakins.

Preferably Eakins cause hell get the best of the youngins like krieder miller fasth etc.

but i think AV would keep the defensive structure but expand a little offensively

as for bylsma id be down if sully stayed to run the D

Brooks didn't cite a source. No "according to a source(s)". No "its believed".

Bylsma took over a team which had lost in the Cup finals the previous season. His team lost to Montreal in 2010. Blew a 3-1 to TB in 2011. I know Crosby and Malkin were hurt. In 2012,they were embarrassed by the Flyers. They are down 3-0 in the Boston series. That team should have won more than they have.

Why can't the coach and the roster both be at fault? Why must it be one or the other? Some people believe that Torts was no longer the best coach for this team, but that doesn't mean they thought the roster was perfect.

If you think that I was saying you can't think both, you're missing my point. The point was:

If you (using "you" generally) think both Bylsma and Torts have/had a flawed roster, then why does one of them get a pass and the other doesn't? Especially considering the one getting a pass has had a **** ton more to work with over the past three seasons and, in that light, done less than the one who is currently out of a job.

That said, BB already replied that he thinks Bylsma should be fired; so the point - as it applies to him at least - is irrelevant. He is at least consistent, unlike a ton of others on this board, so I can respect that.

People keep *****ing about how AV doesn't win play-off rounds and that he won't fix our issues, but he did win several Division championships, got to the SC final in '11.

Eakins is a nice option, but still unproven at NHL level. Both will be fine by me. As long as we don't hire Messier.

He also won a Cup, but so did Torts

Two of the hardest working guys to ever pull on the Ranger sweater.

I'll get killed for this, but I would give Renney an interview.

Coach is only as good as team in front of him. With Rangers, he sometimes ran a puck possession system and sometimes a grinding system. With the Oilers, they tried to emulate both puck possession and grinding. Now he is an assistant with the Wings, top tier possession team in the league.

I think AV is Torts-lite. That would be a lateral move by the organization.

I think that's what they are looking for--they want to continue with the core they have; probably feel that between the lockout and the "meltdown" by Tortorella that once they get a full season with a stable coaching situation things will be back to where they were when they made it to the Conference finals.
