We are going to our next door neighbors for dinner and wine tonight. I texted her to tell her I’d bring a dessert (made this, do recommend - but omitted pecans and used mini m&ms instead) and ask if she’d be offended if I wore comfy clothes/soft pants because it’s been a week. She replied she’d prefer I did.

We didn't get bottles but we got twin pines milk in a metal cooler.

Sour dough bread is proof this isn’t hellIs this ever the truth!!!
As for bread I have fallen madly in love with sourdough, can't get enough of it. Before I was using plain rye or pumpernickel.
I get it from Trader Joe’s
Was there ever any other flavor for Blackjack? The licorice flavor was the only one I ever saw. Do they even make it anymore?
My grandfather used to chew that stuff.

My favorite location is in Coolidge Corner. The new one on Boylston Street, close to Arlington, not so much. Too busy, too many Back Bay types, too many kids.
Hence, empty shelves.
Trader Joe's is ruthless in removing items that don't sell, so you have to think about the clientele.
Who shops there? Adults with relatively discerning, adult taste, or college kids?
(This is what ruined the original Boylston Street location for me, the one next to the firehouse and opposite Hynes Convention Center.)
Also, on the not so good side of the ledger, Trader Joe's has been accused of ripping off smaller vendors. That is, stealing their recipes and selling them as their own.
Just sayin'.
Trader Joe's, especially in affluent neighborhoods, stock all kinds of savory treats, beer, wine and booze.
Very reasonably priced and almost without exception, no crap.

The shorter the list of ingredients, the better.
TJs carries many prepared items that aren't full of junk.
Nothing wrong with their produce, prepackaged salad or refrigerated meats, though you might want to go to your local grocery/butcher for those.
(They carry a lovely Prosciutto de Parma for about $6.99.

Anise or licorice as far as I know. I always liked them.
Douglas they're still around as a boutique item for folks of a certain age, like me.
Funny thing about that gum.......Me and a guy I was crewed with back in the Navy used to love the movie The Right Stuff. In fact its what got the both of us interested in flying military jets...
Every time we'd crew up to fly a mission, we had this routine.....He'd say: "Hey Rocco, got any Beemans?" I'd say "Yeah I think I got a stick". He'd say "Loan me some will ya, I'll pay you back later" and I'd say "Fair enough".
That was our little thing and we'd do it every time we flew together, as a tribute..

Believe it or not I have never seen that entire movie. And I haven't really seen the whiz-bang latest one.
Still my brother-in-law Joe's favorite movie. Navy man, father was a pilot in World War II.

I am very grateful to live about 12 minutes from city limits but enjoy living in a village, surrounded by farms. We have the best butcher in the region on our street, they are famous and supply many restaurants. They regularly win awards for their cold cuts too and use meat from local farmers. There is a goat dairy on the street too and they also have cheddar cheese from the cows next door. We buy eggs from a neighbouring farm ($3.25 a dozen, gathered daily), honey from a local producer, maple syrup from my friend's BIL who has a sugar bush, all at great prices.
With a huge Canadian movement to buy local or at least products made in Canada, I feel so spoiled that we can reach so many food items within about 20 kilometers. We even have a chain of stores that supply peanuts in every variety and flavour you can imagine, they are famous for their Chip Nuts and they grow their own peanuts.
The apple orchards for one of the biggest suppliers is down the street too (yes, it is a main road), they have a shop and supply our local Costco. We have the best farmer's market around as well with the world's best apple fritters - the line ups are worth it.
Add all the farms that have veggies that can be stored well over winter. We live in the heart of Mennonite country, so lots of options.

In addition to a milk man we had a bread man- he delivered bread, doughnuts, cakes etc.
I remember the cream at the top of the milk bottles....
Picked up my new glasses and I'm not a big fan of them. I know it is a good thing but losing weight has made it hell to find a pair that don't cause a blue line around things depending on the amount of light there is. I ended up buying the same glasses I have been wearing just in a different color so hopefully that fixes the issue.

I don’t know how useful he’d be, here’s a fun story.
His best friend lives in NYC and they’ll catch up on zoom and have a cigar and a few beers a few times a month. Last time, it had snowed and he didn’t feel like clearing off a spot on the deck so we brought a chair under the deck. He heard a noise and there was a small coyote to the left of him, and then there was a larger coyote to his right. He basically shit his pants, jumped up, spilled his beer all over his laptop, dropped his cigar, and KICKED IN OUR BASEMENT DOOR. All the while, his buddy is still connected to the zoom and laughing hysterically.
