The poster LarryBiv posed the following in the GDT:

"Someone please explain to me how we could even think about disturbing this defense by trading Dan"

He echoes the thoughts I have had for a while. Hope Dan stays, hate to mess with success.

Talbot is fandiddlydooodlytastic.

This is HF so I probably shouldn't give the other team credit but as surprised I was how well we defended, I was equally surprised how well Chicago did. Damn the west is so solid defensively. Anyway, great win! Wish we got the shutout, oh well.

Is it just me or does Dave Maloney make excuses for the other team after every win? Hey idiot, the Rangers had 7 players who travelled halfway around the world (5 in this game). Both teams had plenty of days off since coming back. No need for the excuses. Our olympians looked fine. I don't think Chicago played their best, but give credit to the team you're covering. Really pathetic.

Oh and in the last 4 games, we beat Colorado, Pittsburgh, and Chicago. Where are the people that are saying we can't play with the best teams in the league?

Great saves at the end by Talbot. Another win against the Hawks.

It was a great win against the Hawks Jabroni. That is 2-0 against the Hawks this year. Yet all we hear about is how we aren't a true contender. How we can't beat the top teams in the NHL. This shows we can hang with the big boys (especially if our back up is playing and we get a win against the best team in the NHL).

We literally just posted this at the same time. Just want to QFT.

Hagelin should be interviewed more often.
Like Dave Maloney says, and what I hoped for, was the way Hagelin is maturing. Getting confidence and keeping it.

If beating a good team makes you a contender, does losing to a bad team make you a basement dweller? If this team continues playing like this for the rest of the season, of course I'll think higher of them. People have no patience around here.

I'm sure they're drafting their excuses. Let me try for them.

Colorado- played the back of a back to back, Callahan's body was taken over by Wayne Gretzky.

Pittsburgh- Last game before olympics, doesn't count

Chicago- First game after olympics, doesn't count

Edmonton really showed us what this is ACTUALLY like. We're actually worse than Edmonton.

Well, I don't know. All I keep reading is that they can't beat a contender and won't be able to win in the playoffs.

Well I can't speak for everyone but I have never said they can't beat any team in the regular season. I actually said verbatim that I think they have what it takes to go far.

No it does not Auf. We beat 3 of the best teams in the NHL in our last 3 games (the olympics are no excuses for the Hawks as we had 7 olympians our self with one getting injured) and have beat the Hawks twice this season, once with our starter and once with our backup.

Does it make us a contender? Maybe not. Does it show we could go far? I believe it does. We had a rough start to the season. To that there is no doubt. However, (and I hate what ifs) but if you reverse our record from 3-7 (uncharacteristic but we had a new coach and injuries) to even 6-4 (more realistic considering how we have performed over the last 8 seasons) we are only a mere 4 points behind Boston (considered a Stanley cup contender) and 6-8 points behind the other NHL elites with a 36-21-3 record.

I am not saying we should take this game and run with it to believe we are true contenders. I am saying that we also shouldn't do the opposite which is write this team off as a team who can't compete in the playoffs.

Well, if our early troubles (which recurred in December) were all an adjustment period, and this team continues playing like this, I'll happily adjust my opinion before the playoffs start. Maybe.

They have played like this for quite a while though. We had an terrible start to the season. Take away that 3-7-1 start and we are 30-17-2 since. That is a solid record.

I know we can easily find ourselves outside of the playoffs with how close everything is but I will be very disappointed if we're not 2nd in the Atlantic when all is said and done. IMO we're a better team than Philly and Columbus and more experienced.
