Kind of interesting that this got done so early and while he’s in the AHL. Not complaining though. I imagine he’s a regular by the end of this season

Would have to depend on injuries and what happens with Reichel. I liked what he brought last year in his few games. I'm not sure if Craig Smith/Maroon will even be coveted to Cup Chase. They might, but IDK.

1 way deal means management expects him to be a regular in the NHL next year. I suspect 2 if not 3 of Marron, Smith, Anthansiou, and Donato will be moved at the TDL opening up a couple of bottom 6 roster spots which hopefully Dach and Slaggert have earned a shot at. Teams will have interest in most of those guys to at least be a 13/14th options as injuries always crop up in the stretch run and playoffs.

Maroon and Smith both were in the lineup consistently in the playoffs last year so there definitely could be interested teams at the deadline. I’d imagine Donato and Hall generate interest too. Should be room for Slaggert/Nazar/Dach to get games this year

A coaches kid that plays like it- works his ass off, positionally smart, not afraid of the hard areas, good wheels. He'll take a regular turn on the PK next year. And if the stars align, his work around the net could see him on the 2nd PP unit eventually.

1-way contract.. setting him up so that it’s his roster spot to lose. Bit of economic security for him, little to lose to hawks with a bridge to a nice money dollar at the end.

Slaggert always reminded me of Hagel. I dont know if he'll ever break out like Hagel did (Hagel is also a bit faster although Slaggert is a better puck handler) but he will give that dog on a bone, never take a shift off etc. effort on the ice.

Yeah nobody thought Hagel would become Hagel. He was a sixth round pick then went unsigned two years after his draft and was undrafted in 2018. Hawks signed him as an Overager in juniors. He definitely came out of nowhere.

But Slaggert’s extension does have some significance. Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson is continually projecting his future NHL lineup, and there are indications Davidson is hopeful Slaggert is in it. You can point to the IceHogs’ lineup for one. Slaggert has been playing on the IceHogs’ top line along with Frank Nazar and Brett Seney. Slaggert likely isn’t a staple on the first line in the NHL, but the Blackhawks do envision him as a winger who bounces around the lineup because of his defensive reliability — and he also possesses some offensive ability.
