Rumor: Hawks expected to make big splash (Robertson, Knies, etc)

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

Trade, offer sheet or not go after Robertson

Seravalli said Hawks had 4ov on table for Knies, but TOR wanted ++ still...so they went to Byram with it instead.

We needed someone like Byram far more than we need Knies. We have Kantserov, Frondell, Lardis, Nazar, and Bertuzzi as potential options in the top 6(Moore could get a look there too) to help Bedard.

On the other hand we had a limited amount of options on the back end that could play the PP and/or provide consistent offense. While we’re still hopeful that both Rinzel and Levshunov will eventually become that caliber of a player we really couldn’t afford to sit around and wait any longer.

I mean if I were to go buy a Honda accord for 100k that doesn’t mean the value of the accord is 100k. Even if that accord got me to work at my 400k job, and the value was “worth it” to me, that doesn’t mean the car is worth 100k
Bad analogy as there are unlimited types and number of cars to buy to get you to work. There are almost no top pair young dmen available. Market value is always changing, and when there are almost no good UFAs and limited sellers that impacts values.

you’ve already signaled that you don’t expect to pick top 5 next year. Should be chasing more moves. Kent Johnson, Marchenko, Greer, Zary.
I don’t know that they have the premium asset required to be a big player for anyone given how this market is right now (at least one that they’d part with).

I mean Johnson maybe makes sense? But is that too redundant with what they have up front already?

Marchenko would be perfect but I can’t imagine that’s getting done for the Florida/edmonton picks and prospects.

Greer and Zary are whatever. Don’t move the needle

2. The Blackhawks did kick the tires on available top-six forwards. The Toronto Maple Leafs’ asking price for Matthew Knies was believed to be the No. 4 pick and one of the Blackhawks’ top players. I’m not sure who the Leafs asked for, but Frank Nazar or Anton Frondell seem possible. At that point, the Blackhawks are probably losing more than they’re getting.
