Holy cow, if someone came in here and suggested those prices yesterday, I would've condescendingly told them to get real.

These knobs are voluntarily killing their brands.

Not shocked at $20 personally. I know it's cheaper with a good vpn and ESPN+, but I don't think most are knowledgeable enough to know how to do that. Let alone you have to have a quality VPN, a cheaper one (like purevpn, which I use because I got a killer black friday deal years ago) doesn't seem to work and outside of using a vpn on your router, you'd likely need to either stream the game off a laptop (with a vpn running) or hope your smart tv is Fire based; Roku's (like what my front room tv is) don't support vpn apps.

Honestly, if the app worked flawlessly and were to allow you to start watching a game from the beginning an hour after it started, or allow you to watch a game after it's been completed, I think that has some value. Also skipping through commercials is important.

But everything about this channel has been low quality, so it's gonna be the most basic ass app and it'll buffer every other minute. You'll be lucky if you can pause the feed.

I'm able to use a VPN still by using NordVPN's Smart DNS on my Roku TVs. Not sure if yours has that functionality. You just program the Smart DNS from your VPN provider into the TV's network settings. Then download the ESPN app and you're able to watch on it.

I was not aware of that feature. Which sort of proves my point that using a VPN to stream the game can be way over the heads of some fans. And I say that as someone who has been subbed to various VPNs for a good decade now and also someone who has designed a couple of websites in the past (over a decade ago now).

I am happy to hear the VPN/ESPN+ route is working for both you and your brother and probably a few others here. At least most of us are finding ways to watch the games each night. I think this app will help with that, just at a much higher price and likely lacking a ton of features that we're accustomed to with a DVR.

Quick google says....

Center Ice is $70 a year.
MLB single team is $120 a year.
NBA is $17 a month for their package.

Hilarious pricing.
Well for 1 team, it would be $120 for the Sox and $120-140 for the Hawks.

Either way, you can't compare out-of-market to in market. Out-of-market will be inherently cheaper, because it's centralized revenue, not controlled by the local team.

Hopefully local rights go away one day, antiquated system.

Is there a real chance they'd release the app and not allow you to pause the feed and rewind/fast-forward as you please? Do we have any other examples to base that off of?

You'll be lucky if they release an app that functions.

Stadium is probably who they will leverage for this app, since that's who Reinsdorf bought.

I would wait AT LEAST 2-3 months before I even considered subscribing and using their app, to see what the guinea pigs say.

There’s always that annual discount. But the most funny thing is the all 3 teams package, there’s no baseball on until the last 2/3 weeks of hockey and basketball season. They really must think their fanbases are morons.
It's Reinsdorf, he has utter contempt for the fans. It's obvious.

Yeah, I'm flat out not paying the Hawks money voluntarily when they stink this much and after they've botched their rollout this badly. If the Hawks and Bulls aren't on tv for me, I don't particularly care given how bad they are to go out of my way to watch. And streaming only is just an annoying hassle. I'll just keep watching neutral NHL and NBA games on nights the Hawks aren't on real TV, or catch up on my dvr and youtube backlogs.

Losers absolutely tanked my interest despite watching or listening to at least 90% of games since 2008. And if they've found a way for freaking me to not care about missing games, I can't imagine how many casuals and ordinary fans they've lost as well.

I find it very odd that you can get just one team. Is everything else blacked out then or just the other teams?
I'm guessing it'll essentially be like 3 little mini apps within one larger platform. Based upon the purchase you approve, they enable access to one or all of the teams.

Are there no commercials when they do breaks on the live broadcast? Can I pause, rewind, fast forward, watch games later?

It's overly expensive, but I might end up using the app for a couple of months this season.

I've got Directv right now, but my 2 year plan has passed and I can now cancel for free. Will probably end up signing up for YouTube TV and this app for a couple months, then sign up as a new account for Directv once I can get those cheap rates again.

I'd still be saving a shit ton.
