Confirmed with Link: Hawks aquire Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway for 4th overall, 45th overall, and Crevier

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
I love that the assumption is we are hitching our wagon 100% to Byram. Rinzel and Levshunov can still be nasty. Top pair nasty. Vlasic is perfectly slotted now.
This is the other thing. Obviously, Byram is going to get the opportunity to step in and be the defacto #1 next season. If he succeeds, great. If not, and if he is only a #2, we still have several other young Dmen with a real chance to develop into that #1.

And instead of those guys getting PP1 by default and being completely over their heads...Lev and Rinzel can slot into roles (like PP2) that set them up for better development/success.

Jordan Greenway more than likely is pretty healthy this year (since its his last year of contract /UFA) , may fetch a 1st rder at the trade deadline .

he was JAG.

by getting a decent roster player, and two more assets that either trade as assets or come into the system. there was no pressing need to overpay just to make something bigger happen.

his whole career includes the last two seasons btw. that's how the word "whole" works.

he objectively had worse possession and shot quality numbers than his team's average at 5v5 over the past 2 years. it wasn't so much worse that i would call him a detriment, but there is no indication from the numbers that he will be better with a worse team surrounding hihim.
Not anymore than Crevier who is JAG to everyone outside of Chicago, and clearly the Isles saw something you didn't. A guy who can score 20+ in the NHL. I'll bet Crevier just had his career year.

I've already said I don't care for the cost to acquire him, but I am defending the player, who is a great player.

I don't really care about averages when you have a top 5 Dman on your team that inflate those averages. He's a better dman than Dobson.

that was my point, yes.

great. i've only ever been talking about the cost to acquire him, so we're back to i don't know why you are bothering to pretend to have a conversation that isn't being had.

that's a silly objection. having a top 5 dman on the team is just as likely to inflate a guy's raw numbers as his relative team average numbers even when they aren't playing together.

he'd better be.

Because this might allow Bedard to top your boy Celebrini in points next season?

Oh Paul, don't demean yourself with nonsense like this.

Bowen Byram is not a significant needle mover on either side of the puck. That's why the 4OA (let alone 4OA+) was a hilarious overpay that is rightfully earning the Blackhawks the ridicule of any analyst with two brain cells to rub together.

That’s the biggest thing. Assume they take Reid or Carels with 4, how long does it take them to reach Byram’s level? If they ever do.

It took Byram seven years to get to this point. Does anybody really want to wait seven years for Reid or Carels?
Any term long than 4 years from today eats up all of Bedard's remaining RFA years. All indications are that Carels will go to NCAA for 2 seasons. Reid and Verheoff could very well do 2 years too. Smits probably the most NHL ready could arrive in a year.

Maybe they take the time that Bryam took to establish himself. Or maybe they are very good right off the hop in 2 years like Seider was for Det or Faber was for Min. But, they came after 2-3 years post draft. So, you're waiting on them to arrive as an unknown.

I am curious and would hope hes asked about side preference...

Did he like playing RD and want to or just stay LD

Not going to do that with Burakovsky and Greenway as his wingers

You just know our idiot coach is going to pull that trio out of his hat early next year
Who did Kane have as his center at his Chicago peak....Handzeus? Anisminov? Also lets not pretend like the the Hawks prospect/talent pool is not filled with top 6 options. Nazar has 122 NHL games played, Moore 60, Lardis 40, Frondell 100+ pro games against men including the NHL, and Kantserov 3 full seasons of pro hockey against grown men. If Bedard can't make magic with one of those options and a plug...he ain't what we thought/want and our prospect pool is not near what we think it is.

The coaching is certainly a thing too

Can't wait to get bent over by Ferris. f*** me.

Ferris is going to look to set market for #1 D going forward

He has all the leverage and since Hawks acquired his client in belief he is #1 defender going forward they will seek just that

Could be looking at $14-15M AAV for Byram maybe more here
