Who did Kane have as his center at his Chicago peak....Handzeus? Anisminov? Also lets not pretend like the the Hawks prospect/talent pool is not filled with top 6 options. Nazar has 122 NHL games played, Moore 60, Lardis 40, Frondell 100+ pro games against men including the NHL, and Kantserov 3 full seasons of pro hockey against grown men. If Bedard can't make magic with one of those options and a plug...he ain't what we thought/want and our prospect pool is not near what we think it is.

The coaching is certainly a thing too
Then Frondell needs at least Hossa and Sharp caliber wingers to take on heavy matchup duties. No matter what way you spin it, the Hawks need significant upgrades at wing. The nice thing is that wing is the easiest position to upgrade.

Our GM has shown no such ability to upgrade position

Oh and we have a bunch of expensive shitty vet wingers that will be on our roster dragging it down this coming year in Teravainen, Burakovsky, Donato, Greenway and Mangipane

What a collection of talent we have!

Oh and when our coach again does shit like put Lardis on 4th line, Healthy scratch a kid like Moore and put Greene/Burakovsky on Bedard wing that will sure be fun

My beef is taking on Greenway. Like……why??? We should not have given up 2nd or Crevier adding that stump to our roster.

What am I supposed to praise Davidson for the shitshow roster he has built? The mishandling of drafts? etc?
No, just why make the same point over and over? We get you hate what he has done. I just said the Hawks need to upgrade the wings regardless of which center they play with, but it’s the easiest position to upgrade.

Nothing in that requires you to praise Davidson. Nothing in that needs you to say Davidson sucks overall either.

It's such a minor thing though. He's just a 4th liner that will throw his weight around. He's also only here for a year unless resigned. We also need more players with a good amount of NHL experience.

This probably makes Slaggert the AHL/NHL tweener which is a + too.

Again I would not have done that exact deal that KD did. I would have stuck to my guns and offer next yr's FRP instead of the 4th pick. If Buff takes the Sharks offer, so be it.

As for the deal itself, IDC about the 2nd rouind pick, the Hawks have plenty of those. I don't really care about Crevier. Great story, found money and all and while he could continue to ascend as a player, I think it's more likely than not, that the player he was in 25-26 is the player he will continue to be. Good enough to continue to play and be wanted by teams but not good enough to stay in any one spot more than 3-4 years.

The only issue with the trade was the 4th pick. I would offer the 45, Louie and next year's FRP, if Buffalo trades him to San Jose so be it. But knowing some posters on this board, had San Jose gotten Bowen, those posters would be complaining about how KD fail again. KD can literally do nothing right in the eyes of these posters.

Let's see what happens going forward when we are not trying to scramble to the cap floor, need NHL bodies while the prospect pool comes to roster a (intentionally bad) team, or taking dumps to make things happen. Hopefully we are at the end of that road and now we will see what Davidson can actually do building up. The tearing down is pretty simple.

What would you of taken with the #4 pick?

KD confirmed the Hawks haven't had any discussions with his agent and will begin process after FA

His agent will rightly seek to have his client among the top or even the highest paid defender in league.. He has all the leverage and KD making clear Hawks view Byram as a #1 will further his demands

After all an elite #1 as Davidson believes him should be compensated as one, right?

After sleeping on all this...I did not have a good night's sleep.

My opinion is roughly the same as it was before going to bed. Bryam is a good player, he makes the roster better, he's young enough to continue to improve and potentially become a #1D, and that the Hawks grossly overpaid for what Byram is currently and what his contract situation is like.

You can like the player and hate the cost. Those two things are not mutually exclusive and I'm going to attempt to focus future posts of mine about Byram to be about him, and not whatever the hell Kyle was smoking last night. It already feels derivative to continue to complain about this move when I have a dozen or so posts about it already.
