So far they have been spooky at times, but never a serious threat. Right now they set out to embarass the Rangers while they are down, and so far are accomplishing it. Jack Hughes himself has seemed to take the last season losses and Trouba/Rempe-led headshots personally, and is out to score 1 or 2 every game against them.

Spooky Devils teams in the last 2 years have had their moments, but then got their Halloween costume ripped off their face by a more experienced Canes team before really succumbing to injuries and craptastic goaltending the next year.

Are Devils now officially graduated to a "scary" team? Is Markstrom's steadiness the key? Today's mission was to demoralize and potentially torpedo the Rangers entire season, and so far it is working.

Talented team. Well built.

However, this is the era of disappointment before the breakthrough. The early trip to the finals of Pittsburgh, Chicago, Los Angeles and Tampa was a while ago. If I were putting money on it, I'd be cautious.

Shades of burning down villages.

I would not jump to any conclusions based on games against the Penguins and Rangers.

Sheldon Keefe is a good coach, fully expected the Devils to have success this season. Their cores young/fast enough to play his style of hockey. Historically the struggles have always been in the playoffs with that playstyle, when games get slower and checking is tighter it's not as easy to move around the ice and maintain possession.

I don't know if they're contenders or not but Keefe has always been an elite regular season coach who tends to overthink in big moments (playoffs)

Hold your horses. The rangers have been done since day 1 of this season. The 12-4-1 start was a mirage. Analytically and eye test theyve looked horrendous all season. Rangers will be selling at the deadline.

Theyve gotten boat raced by #32 in the league twice in the past 2 weeks.

Devs top guys are still too small to make noise in playoffs.
