Pretty much most fans of every playoff team and almost-playoff team cared about the season, the whole “2020-21 doesn’t count” thing is just a sour excuse for what have you

Nah I'm actually quite happy with the way the Canucks are looking. Thanks though.

Jesus all of you can't bother seeing what the context of the post was. I said you HAD one, you know before all these guys came to the NHL? CLEARLY YOU DONT ANYMORE.
We had one when we have Petterson and Hughes, both top 10 picks. Is it really that hard to have a highly ranked prospect pool when you finished around the bottom of the league for consecutive years? Nobody would claim MacT as a great GM even though he had one of the highest ranked prospect pool from finishing at the bottom of the league for multiple years.

It's hard for Benning because he trades away his picks while being a lottery team.

Didn't think he was a good GM and still don't, so no. He makes me think of Ken Holland without the good part of Holland's career.

2019 was actually a pretty solid offseason. 2020 was a disaster. Let's see how we do in 2021. So far mixed results highly dependant on OEL.

I never thought he was awful and never thought he was great. Seems like a pretty mediocre GM but certainly not the worst in the league.

There was a German WW2 general named Kurt von Hammerstein-Equord who stated: "there are four types of generals each possessing two of the following characteristics: intelligent or stupid and lazy or industrious.

Those who are intelligent and industrious should be placed on the general staff and should be given responsibility for planning operations.

Those who are intelligent and lazy should be given high command for they have the intuitive grasp of strategy and tactics to make good decisions in battlefield situations.

Those who are stupid and lazy make up 90 percent of our generals; that is simply a fact and so they will therefore be our divisional commanders.

Those who are stupid and industrious are extremely dangerous and should be shot on sight."

I think this sort of analysis may be applied to NHL management.

I'll let you guess which group I think Benning fits in.

He continues to take part in free agency

It is his weakest ability
and he continues to take part in it at a extremely aggressive level

100% guarantee Vancouver would be more competitive if they didnt part in free agency at the level that he does

Nah he’s still an idiot.

That OEL contract is going to come back to haunt them sooner rather than later. They have 0 defensemen who can handle top competition. And their biggest name players are still unsigned.

Their top 6 is shaping up nicely though. Good goaltending too.

I mean the Canucks have only signed a bunch of depth players to ~$1m contracts. Not sure how we're supposed to build out our roster otherwise?

You can fault him for the OEL trade, that one could end up being awful, but his FA signings have been fine this year.

I dislike everything he did this offseason, outside of Garland obviously. But even that came with the disaster of the OEL contract. Poolman was also terrible. The Holtby and Virtanen buyouts 1 year after they were signed isnt a good look. That D looks like a disaster.

Lets see what Hughes and EP come in at, I dont see how they make it work with 14 million.

4x2.5 for Poolman was bad...

Lol your bias is showing. Canucks have just under 20 million in cap space/LTIR to sign three players to fill out their roster. I wouldn't expect you to look at thebcap structure and deduce what the final roster will be when moving the AHL players to Abbotsford.
