Has Mike Sullivan Been Fired yet

I could stomach the pirates being laughable losers, MLB is rigged against success for teams like them

However,

Watching the steelers become morons

And the Penguins become irrelevant

All while my entertainment bank account shrinks every year so I can't pay attention much to the games anyway

It's tough to be a sports fan for this city in this era.

As a non Steelers fan it’s odd observing the prism their fans see things through.

I would say you’ve been incredibly successful. Consistently making the playoffs and winning. You’re just going through the transition of finding a new QB after Ben which every team goes through.

Ah yeah, it's like the pens.... We expect to you know, win in the playoffs... But yeah making playoffs is success, too, lol

Just been 15 years since the steelers were a threat to do anything

I , like eXile3, am not a Steelers fan so I really don't see the comparison between Tomlin and Sullivan. I understand those that do, though. You live and breathe both teams, so I get it.

As a NY football Jets fan all my damn life, I would kill to have a Mike Tomlin. Mike Sullivan, not so much!

What you’re seeing with tomlin is his peak as a coach. Particularly when he’s not handed a hall of fame roster in an era of defense first football. He will never adapt his philosophy and the Steelers are committed to being at 9 win team bordering on a playoff spot vs blowing it up for three years and building it back to a contender.

The penguins, because they recognize they need to blow it up, are infinitely more entertaining than the Steelers. A contending team is fun. A rebuilding team is fun. A mediocre team that tries to pull out all the stops just to stay C+ is purgatory.

Not gonna tackle the pirates since the owner and the league don’t care if they win

Mike Tomlin = high floor/low ceiling

So yes a team that loses a ton would welcome a Tomlin.
But he'll never take that team to a SB or even win a playoff game (he'll get you to the playoffs).

When you tell a coach your jobs secure they stop taking risks and get complacent. Not going to risk putting a young player in a scoring role.

Not going to ruffle feathers with your stars and ask them to play a more defensive system. There’s a reason coaches get recycled every handful of years.

I feel like this gif is a good representation of how I’d feel when/if this franchise grows a brain and fires Sullivan, hopefully tomorrow.

It's not Tort's fault The Flyers were so bad. The Flyers just have a bad roster. They should of stuck with him for 10 more years until the roster gets better. 🤮
When he said he isn’t changing the way he coaches, that was it. Like it should have been for Sullivan when he refused to answer what changes he made to his system when reporters asked him this past summer. He acted as if they wouldn’t understand and he didn’t need to answer it when it was a hot topic.

Both are the same idiot. One is just outwardly an asshole with a brash and loud personality while the other is an asshole with a more reserved approach.

Steelers are worse with keeping coaches too long and while Cowher was fine, Tomlin is just a what the actual f*** type of situation.

Just far too many issues with players and there’s always some player that gives up on him during the season and yet they’ll blame the players and not the coach. It’s the same shit with Sullivan. Everyone would rather blame the players than the coach with the media, they almost go out of their way to protect Sullivan while Tomlin gets more heat but it’s ownership that remains confident in him. For Sullivan it’s ownership and the media, you got to really see how sackless the Pens media regulars are. Just pure trash.

Nothing big from Pierre LeBrun in a review of the status of every coach in the NHL, but here is what he said about Sullivan:

Sullivan is wrapping up Year 1 of a three-year extension he signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins in August 2022. It takes him through the 2026-27 season. He’s believed to be the second-highest-paid coach in the league behind Cooper. If another team wanted the Team USA coach, could there be a mutually agreed-upon exit scenario? It may not be likely, but it’s possible.

Which of these reasons is most likely why FSG won't pull the trigger on firing Sullivan:

a) They're being cheap.
b) He's from Boston
c) They're afraid how the Big Three would react.
d) They look at the Steelers and the lowest common denominator of yinzers who think the coach can never be fired, and think that must translate across all Pittsburgh sports.

C as in Captain!

I am all for getting Sullivan gone not because he is not a good coach. as much as he is stale and needs a change. Like another head coach here, there is a time to move on. Get some fresh perspective and eyes on the roster to begin the rebuild and development at this level. Sullivan just isn't the coach for that.

Yes

In reality though its Sid. I am confident all of the above is a factor. But Sid is the main mover. If he wants change then change will happen. So far he as supported Sully.
